A laundry detergent formulation is provided including a detergent surfactant; a builder; a filler and an antiredeposition agent, including: 10 to 65 wt % of structural units of formula I where each Rand Ris independently selected from a hydrogen and a Calkyl group; 10 to 80 wt % of structural units of formula II wherein where each Ris independently selected from a hydrogen and a-C (O) CHgroup; and 10 to 65 wt % of structural units of formula III where each Ris independently selected from a hydrogen and a —CHgroup; andwhere at least one of Rand Ris a Calkyl group in at least 1 mol % of the structural units of formula I in the antiredeposition agent; where the antiredeposition agent has a lactone end group and where the antiredeposition agent has a weight average molecular weight of 1,500 to 6,000 Daltons.

A deposition aid polymer for laundry is provided, comprising >50 to 99 wt % of structural units of formula (I) wherein Ris selected from hydrogen, —Calkyl and —CHOR; wherein Ris selected from —Calkyl and phenyl; and 1 to <50 wt % of structural units of formula (II) wherein Ris selected from a moiety of Formula (III), a moiety of Formula (IV) and a moiety of Formula (V) wherein Ais a counter anion balancing the cationic charge on the N; wherein Ris selected from hydrogen, —Calkyl and phenyl; and wherein Ris selected from hydrogen and —Calkyl; wherein the deposition aid polymer has a weight average molecular weight of <100,000 Daltons; and with the proviso that the deposition aid polymer has an average of at least two structural units of formula (II) per molecule.

A fabric care composition is provided including water; a cleaning surfactant; a fabric softening silicone; and a deposition aid polymer, wherein the deposition aid polymer is a dextran polymer functionalized with quaternary ammonium moieties; wherein the deposition aid polymer enhances deposition of the fabric softening silicone from the fabric care composition onto a fabric.

An automatic dishwashing composition is provided including a builder; a phosphonate; a nonionic surfactant; and a dispersant polymer, comprising: structural units of formula I wherein each Ris independently selected from a hydrogen and a —C(O)CHgroup; and structural units of formula II wherein each Ris independently selected from a hydrogen and a —CHgroup; and wherein the automatic dishwashing composition contains ≤0.1 wt % of dispersant polymer having a lactone end group and wherein the dispersant polymer has a weight average molecular weight of 1,500 to 10,000 Daltons.

A fabric care composition is provided including water; a cleaning surfactant; a fabric softening silicone; and a modified carbohydrate polymer having a weight average molecular weight of &#x3c;500,000 Daltons and a Kjeldahl nitrogen content corrected for ash and volatiles, TKN, of &#x2265;0.5 wt %; wherein the modified carbohydrate polymer is a carbohydrate polymer functionalized with quaternary ammonium moieties; wherein the quaternary ammonium moieties on the modified carbohydrate polymer include: trimethyl ammonium moieties having formula (I) and dimethyl(alkyl) ammonium moieties having formula (II) wherein each R is independently selected from a Calkyl group.

A method for solution polymerization. The method comprises polymerizing in a solvent a monomer mixture comprising: (a) 5 to 95 wt % of a C-Cethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid; and (b) 5 to 95 wt % of vinyl acetate; wherein the solvent comprises 51 to 88 wt % isopropanol and 12 to 49 wt % water.
