A frangible slip ring is disposable on a mandrel of a plug disposable in a casing of an oil or gas well. The slip ring is radially expandable during setting to fragment and radially expand to engage the casing. A plurality of external teeth are formed in an exterior of the slip ring, and spaced-apart axially along the slip ring. The plurality of teeth is radially segmented around a circumference of the slip ring by a plurality of axial slots spaced-apart around the circumference of the slip ring and extending into the exterior of the slip ring. An interior of the slip ring is axially segmented along a longitudinal axis by a plurality of annular grooves spaced-apart along the longitudinal axis of the slip ring and extending into the interior of the slip ring.

Lightweight, easily drillable or millable slip for composite frac, bridge and drop ball plugs

A downhole tool with a frangible cone and slip system is disposable in a casing of an oil or gas well and includes a slip ring and a cone disposal on a mandrel. An interior of the slip ring and an exterior of the cone have mating flat facets circumscribing the interior or the exterior of the respective slip ring or cone, and forming an acute angle with respect to a longitudinal axis of the mandrel. The flat facets of the cone are contiguous with or bordering one another around a circumference of the cone, or are separated by a flush region substantially flush with adjacent flat facets, to form a substantially smooth circumference around the flat facets.

Downhole tool with cones and slips

A downhole tool for use in completing a well includes a plug body selectively securable to a wellbore at a desired elevation and having a flowbore. A non-dissolvable flow restrictor is operably disposed in the flowbore and operates to restrict fluid flow through the flowbore, and a time-dissolvable retainer or spacer is operably coupled to the flow restrictor to retain the flow restrictor in a first position within the flowbore. The retainer is dissolvable within a predetermined passage of time to release the flow restrictor to move between the first position and a second position within the flowbore to control the flow of fluid through the downhole tool.

A downhole tool such as a bridge or frac plug includes a combination anvil and coupler that forms both the anvil or bottom stop on a mandrel, and a coupler to attach a burn device. One or more members, including a packer ring, can be disposed on the mandrel and movable with respect to the central mandrel along a longitudinal axis of the central mandrel. The combination anvil and coupler includes an upper attachment section attached to the mandrel, an upper surface against which the members are compressed, and a lower attachment section attached to a burn device.

Combination anvil and coupler for bridge and fracture plugs

A plug for a pipe in an oil or gas well includes a packer, a slip ring and a cone disposable on a mandrel and pressed between an upper push sleeve and a lower anvil on the mandrel. The plug can be field configurable with a frac plug kit, a bridge plug kit and a soluble insert plug kit. A pair of concentric locking rings is disposed between the push sleeve and the mandrel with an outer annular cone with an outer conical shape tapered upwardly and inwardly.

A down hole flow control tool for use in a well bore, such as a bridge or frac plug, includes back-flow vent holes in a central mandrel and initially covered by a member on the mandrel, such as a lower slip or a lower cone. In a subsequent, set configuration, the member moves away from the vent hole allowing back flow of well fluids.

A buoyancy system to buoy a riser of an offshore oil platform includes buoyancy compartments coupled around an elongated internal beam. The internal beam can withstand loads between the oil platform and the buoyancy system, while the buoyancy compartments provide buoyancy. The internal beam includes an elongated stem, a plurality of webs extending radially outwardly from the stem, and a plurality of transverse flanges attached to the outer edges of the webs.

A frame and system for adding buoyancy to a riser used in connection with floating platforms is provided which, in some example embodiments, includes a stem attached to multiple supports which include flanges arranged to take impact and abrasion loads off an internal buoyancy module. Riser buoyancy system

A buoyancy system for deep-water risers of a deep water floating platforms includes an ecto-skeleton formed by a plurality of members to withstand lateral and bending loads, and a buoyant vessel disposed in an interior cavity of the ecto-skeleton to resist pressure loads. The member of the ecto-skeleton can include hollow tubular members having hollow interiors with a buoyant material disposed in the hollow interiors of the tubular members.

Buoyancy module with external frame

A buoyancy system for a deep water floating platform includes at least one composite buoyancy module coupled to the a riser having a length greater than 1000 feet and an associated weight. The composite buoyancy module is sized to have a volume to produce a buoyancy force at least as great as the weight of the riser. The composite buoyancy module may include a vessel with a composite vessel wall. The buoyancy module or vessel may have a non-circular cross-section defining an area which is greater than approximately 79 percent of an area defined by a square with sides tangent to the vessel wall to maximize buoyancy. A second buoyancy module may be directly coupled to the first buoyancy module to achieve a desired buoyancy.

Composite buoyancy module

A buoyancy system for a deep water floating platform includes at least one composite buoyancy module coupled to a riser. The module includes an elongate vessel with a vessel wall, and upper and lower ends. The vessel is attached to the riser, vertically oriented, and submerged under a surface of water such that the upper end is disposed at a lower water pressure, and the lower end at a higher water pressure. The vessel wall has a thickness that varies from a thinner wall thickness at the lower end to a thicker wall thickness at the upper end. The vessel may be internally pressurized with air such that an internal air pressure of the vessel substantially equals the higher water pressure at the lower end of the vessel resulting in a lower pressure differential at the lower end with the thinner wall thickness and a higher pressure differential at the top end with the thicker wall thickness. The module is sized to have a volume to produce a buoyancy force at least as great as the weight of the riser.

A buoyancy system for a deep water floating platform includes at least one buoyancy module coupled to the a riser. The module may be coupled to a ring structure of an end cap coupled to the riser, or two modules may be coupled to a ring structure to couple them together. The modules have an interior flange extending into the interior cavity and abutting the ring structure. Fasteners couple the interior flange of the module to the ring structure to form an interior attachment. A seal may be formed between the flange of the buoyancy module and the ring structure, and may include a seal member disposed in a groove. A test port extends to the groove to allow testing of the seal. The module may include a material and may have a thickness that together allow a wall of the buoyancy module to expand outwardly under an internal pressure and force the flange against the ring structure to enhance sealing between the flange and ring structure.
