In accordance with an example embodiment there is disclosed herein a method for authenticating a touch screen layout. A file containing the touch screen layout is signed by a key known to the device that is to deploy the touch screen layout, such as, for example an automated banking machine and/or a point of sale system. Before the touch screen is used by the device's user interface, the device validates the touch screen.

Encrypting touch screen

In an example embodiment, there is disclosed herein an apparatus with a transceiver coupled with a bus; and a plurality of interfaces coupled with a plurality of lighting devices, and lead through indicator (LTI) logic coupled with the transceiver and the plurality of interfaces. The LTI logic is operable to receive a signal via the bus with data for operating a selected one of the plurality of lighting devices. The LTI logic determines an interface and a channel for the selected one of the plurality of lighting devices. The LTI logic send a signal to the selected one of the plurality of lighting devices on the connector and channel corresponding to the selected one of the plurality of lighting devices to operate the selected lighting device in accordance with the data for operating the selected one of the plurality of lighting devices.

An apparatus that operates to cause financial transfers responsive to data read from data bearing records, includes at least one processor that is in operative connection with a card reader, a check acceptor, a cash dispenser and a display. In accordance with an example embodiment, there is disclosed herein, an apparatus, comprising a bezel, a cover, and a thermally conductive, electrically isolating material. The cover comprises top and side surfaces, a cavity for receiving an optical device, a first opening for the optical device to obtain an image, and a second opening for allowing an electrical conductor to be coupled with the optical device. The thermally conductive, electrically isolating, material, is shaped in accordance with the shape of the optical device. The bezel and the cover protect the optical device from discharge currents. The thermally conductive, electrically isolating, material provides electrical isolation of the optical device from the cover and conducts heat from the optical device to the top and side surfaces of the cover.

In an example embodiment, an automated banking machine that includes an anti-fraud arrangement that can deter effective operation of unauthorized devices attached to the machine. The arrangement allows for the machine's card slot bezel to be frequently exchanged for a differently configured card slot bezel, where the bezel configuration is displayed to a potential user.
