Systems and methods for providing trend analysis in a sedation and analgesia system

This disclosure is of a mask-free device for supplying sufficient gas to a medical patient and for more accurately sampling the exhalation gas of the patient. The device includes a flexible body having lumens adapted to extend into the nares of a patient and adjacent the patient's mouth for collecting and transmitting a sampling of the patient's end tidal exhalation to a gas analyzer to analyze one or more component gases in that exhalation. The disclosure also discloses the transmittal of pressure from the nares of the patient to a pressure transducer for determining the respiratory phase of the patient and for controlling the volume of oxygen delivered to the patient. The body of the mask-free unit further includes conduits for delivering oxygen through diffuser orifices to positions adjacent the patient's nares and mouth. Finally, a controller is interconnected between the pressure transducer and the gas supply for increasing the delivery of gas during the inhalation phase of the patient's respiration and for decreasing said delivery upon the exhalation phase for the purpose of avoiding dilution of the exhalation sample.

Apparatus and method for mask free delivery of an inspired gas mixture and gas sampling

A medical effector system comprised of a bedside unit and a procedure unit. The bedside unit contains a series of connection points for receiving inputs from a series of patient monitors. The procedure unit contains a patient monitoring and medical effector program, and a drug delivery pump or magnetic flux generator capable of delivering therapeutic energy to a patient. The medical effector system contains the capability to issue and receive a request from a non-sedated patient, issue and receive a request from a sedated patient and then to calculate a time difference. The medical effector program operates the pump or magnetic flux generator based upon at least some of the patient outputs and program inputs including a calculated time difference. A removable umbilical cable connects the two units and allows the output of the patient monitors as well as other information to travel between the two units.

The present invention comprises a security system integral with a sedation and analgesia system. The invention includes a computer assisted IV drug infusion administration device coupled with a secure user interface, or other security means, that can restrict and monitor user access to prevent unauthorized or improper use of the device. The system can also provide varying levels of access to the device so that different users may have different levels of access to system operations. The variety of access levels may prevent accidental or intentional misuse of the drug delivery system, while still permitting access to the required functionality. Data, such as usage statistics and procedural events associated with drug delivery, may be recorded in association with a user's personal identification information to help identify training needs and to identify possible misuse of access information.
