Methods and apparatus for additive manufacture of an article corresponding with an energy transmissibility image. The article may include a contact lens or intraocular lens. The improvements are directed to repeated application of a monomer according to a pattern corresponding with the energy transmissibility image, such as grayscale image. The method may include intermittent pinning of deposited polymerizable mixture, partial cure, and final cure of the deposited polymerizable mixture. A pattern of multiple defined areas may be manufactured, with each area representing an amount of energy transmissibility associated with that area.

Polymeric additive manufacturing of an ophthalmic lens

Methods for additive manufacture of an article corresponding with one or more arrays of data values. The article may include, for example, an optical lens, such as a contact lens or an intraocular lens. The methods include generating an array of data values and emitting droplets of polymerizable mixture in a pattern corresponding with the arrays of data values. After receiving the droplets of polymerizable mixture on a receiving surface, the droplets are integrated and pinned via exposure to actinic conditions. Two or more patterns of droplets may be combined on the receiving surface to form a combined volume of polymerizable mixture and cured.

Improved methods and apparatus for holding a polymeric optical lens, such as an ophthalmic lens (contact lens or intraocular lens 'IOL'); or other polymeric item; in a hydrated state in a hydrated lens inspection container (“HLIC”) that is conducive for measurement of characteristics of the ophthalmic lens (or other polymeric item) being inspected. According to the present invention, a HLIC receives the polymeric optical lens into a HLIC lens retention cavity, and a hydration fluid fills the HLIC to a level above a cavity upper edge of the HLIC container, hydration fluid is permitted to reach a level above the cavity upper edge via formation of a meniscus with the hydration liquid.

Improved methods and apparatus to quickly and securely fasten a tumbler cup to a spindle turner arm in a consistent and accurate manner. A spindle tumbler arm is inserted into a support body and contacts one or more cams. The cams move a plunger outward forcing a seal against a wall of an interior change securing turner arm against to the tumbler cup. Other embodiments include an expandable bladder placed into the tumbler cup, thereby providing enhanced stability and support; and a threaded support attached via a threaded connection. The expandable bladder and/or the threaded support in such embodiments may also incorporate an internal plunger-cam mechanism, enhancing their functionality and adaptability for diverse tumbler customization needs.

A multifocal ophthalmic lens with multiple sub-optical elements along a same optical path and methods for generating the multifocal ophthalmic lens.
