The present invention is a drain adapter for adapting a flushing device to a drainpipe. The adapter has a main body including an indent portion for retaining the flushing device during operation. The main body also includes an enlarged portion. The enlarged portion corresponds to a sink recess and expands under pressure to retain the adapter within the drainpipe.

A faucet assembly is operable automatically or mechanically to facilitate control in a non-powered or motor failure condition. In the automatic control position, separate and automatic control of fluid flow and temperature is provided by respective actuation of first and second handles. In the manual control position, the first and second handles are moved axially to decouple electric motors from corresponding fluid control valves. Such axial movement of the first and second handles concurrently couples the handles mechanically to the corresponding fluid control valves to provide the desired manual actuation.

A coupling assembly for a portable drain cleaning machine includes a polygonal adapter mounted to a motor output shaft through a threaded interface. A polygon adapter threads over the motor output shaft in a locked male/female relationship to transmit rotation therebetween. A polygonal outer segment of the polygonal adapter telescopes into a polygonal inner segment of a sleeve mounted to the drum. The sleeve slides into a fixed cylindrical member and over the polygonal adapter to removably mount the drum. Rotation of the motor output shaft rotates the polygonal adapter which rotates the sleeve and the drum.

A pilot valve has: an input passageway, an output passageway, a rotatable shaft disposed between them, a permanent magnet affixed to the rotatable shaft, an electromagnet, a control element, and a failsafe magnet. The rotatable shaft has a slot that gives the rotatable shaft a varied cross-section as a function of its position. The slot is disposed to permit fluid to flow between the input passageway and the output passageway except when the rotatable shaft is in a closed position. The electromagnet is disposed to generate first magnetic field that, via the permanent magnet, drives the rotatable shaft away from the closed position. The control element places a PWM current on the electromagnet, such that the length of the duty cycle controls the strength of the first magnetic field. The failsafe magnet is disposed to generate a second magnetic field that drives the rotatable shaft away from the closed position.

A snap latch drum release assembly includes a multiple of latches which engage the inner diameter of a plate spaced away from a rotary drum to lock and unlock the rotary drum of a drain cleaning machine without the need for tools. As the latches engage a plate on the drum, no shaft grooves are located in the shaft to weaken it. The snap latch drum release assembly is mounted on a support frame assembly. Lifting of an actuating handle engages pins in the latch surfaces to overcome their spring bias and simultaneously drive the latches away from the plate to allow release of the drum. To mount the drum, the drum shaft is pushed into the sleeve and the latches are received onto the latch plate.

A rotary drum release assembly includes a multiple of lock pins which engage a rotary drum shaft to lock and unlock a rotary drum to a drain cleaning machine without the need for tools. The rotary drum release assembly is mounted within a support frame assembly. A rotary drum shaft groove is located within a sleeve mounted to the support frame assembly to minimize localized weakening of the shaft. Rotation of an actuating handle engages cam surfaces with the lock pins to overcome their spring bias of the lock pins and simultaneously drive the lock pins away from the shaft to allow release of the drum. To mount the drum, the drum shaft is pushed into the sleeve and the lock pins are received into the shaft groove.

A socket latch drum release assembly includes a shaft release coupling which telescopically engages a rotary drum shaft to selectively lock and unlock a rotary drum of a drain cleaning machine without the necessity of tools. The shaft release coupling includes a polygonal shaped distal end which corresponds with a polygonal opening in the removable drum shaft. At least one of the plurality of faces which form the polygonal shaped distal end includes a retractable engagement member which corresponds to a recess located in each face of the polygonal opening. The drum shaft is directed into the sleeve from one side and the shaft release coupling is engaged with the shaft on the opposite side of the sleeve. Engagement between a radially extending flange of the shaft release coupling and the end of the shaft rotatably locks the rotary drum shaft into the sleeve.

An electronic faucet having a spout, a electronically actuated valve, and a microprocessor-based control circuit for operating the valve to enable or disable water flow through the spout. The microprocessor has a control program which includes a calibration routine that uses an infra-red sensor to determine an adjustable setpoint indicative of the signal received from the sensor in the absence of an object in front of the faucet. The microprocessor switches the valve from its closed state to its open state when the signal from the sensor either increases above the setpoint by a selected amount or decreases below the setpoint by a selected amount. This provides a window about the setpoint within which differences between the setpoint and the signal do not result in opening of the valve. Object detection is accomplished using a tracking routine that adjusts the setpoint in an attempt to track the sensor signal. If the sensor signal undergoes a change that is too large to be tracked, then the microprocessor switches on the valve. Once the sensor signal drops back into a range of values about a stored calibration point, the valve is closed. The control circuit is part of an electronics module that is mounted within the spout and that is held in place between the spout tube and the spout housing. The module includes a curved recess having a shape that conforms to the spout tube so that the module is retained in place at its upper end by the spout tube.
