A composite duct panel assembly is provided. The composite duct panel assembly includes a composite duct panel having a curved cross-section in a circumferential direction and a width based on the panel including a portion of a circumference of an annular bypass duct. In one embodiment, at least two adjacent corners of the panel are greater than 90&#xb0;. In one embodiment, the panel includes a circumferential flange along a circumferential edge and an axial flange along an axial edge, and the assembly further includes a corner bracket coupled to the panel, the circumferential flange, and the axial flange. The corner bracket includes a flange corner having an approximate 90&#xb0; angle, the flange corner extending the axial flange and the circumferential flange to an intersection at a corner of the panel.

Method and system for improving structural characteristics of composite component corners

Splitter apparatus for gas turbine engines are disclosed. An example splitter apparatus may include a splitter including an annular outer wall substantially defining a convex leading edge; an annular splitter support positioned radially within the outer and including a forward end disposed substantially against a splitter inner; and an annular first bulkhead spanning between the outer wall and the splitter support. The outer wall, the splitter support, and the first bulkhead may define a generally annular splitter plenum. The forward end of the splitter support may include spaced apart, radially oriented metering slots. The outer wall may include an inner portion disposed radially inward from the splitter inner surface extending aft and including spaced-apart exit slots. The splitter plenum, the metering slots, and the exit slots may conduct airflow from the plenum, through the metering slots against the splitter inner surface, and through the exit slots.

Processes for producing near net-shape panels and panels formed thereby. The processes include forming a preform to comprise a stack of multiple plies that contain an uncured expandable foam material. The preform has regions that differ from each other by the number and/or volume of the plies therein. The preform and its plies are then cured within a restricted volume to produce a near net-shape panel. The curing step causes the expandable foam material to expand, and the restricted volume is sized so that the number and volume of the plies within the regions of the preform cause zones within the panel to have different densities and/or thicknesses.
