An injection molded product is disclosed and includes a shingle resembling a cedar shingle tile formed from an amorphous or semi-crystalline thermoplastic and having a wood grain direction. The injection molded product also includes streaks in the shingle that are substantially parallel to the wood grain direction and the streaks extend through an interior of the shingle and appear as contrasting streaks on an exterior of the shingle to form a variegated wood grain appearance. The injection molded product further includes an injection molded vestige in the shingle. The injection molded vestige is located adjacent to a perimeter of the shingle and the injection molded vestige comprises a location at which material entered an injection mold through a gate.

Variegated building product and method

A method of molding a building product may include providing an injection mold with a plurality of gates located adjacent a perimeter of the injection mold. The method may further include commingling a first material and a second material into a flow. The second material may be a color that contrasts with a color of the first material. The method may include injecting the commingled flow into the plurality of gates to form an injection molded building product, and removing the molded building product from the injection mold. In addition, the second material may extend through an interior of the molded building product and appear as contrasting streaks on an exterior of the building product to form a variegated grain appearance.

A dark-colored siding panel product includes a shell having a layered structure. The layered structure can include a substrate comprising polyvinylchloride. The substrate may be located between inner and outer layers. The inner and outer layers may be formed from a weatherable polymer. In addition, at least the outer layer may have a CIE color unit L*&#x3c;75. An insulation layer may be mounted to the shell.

System, method and apparatus for dark-colored siding panel product

Polymer composite roofing materials are provided which contain resin, and about 20-75 wt. % fillers and additives, in which the fillers contain at least one bulk filler for reducing the amount of resin needed to make the roofing material, and at least one aesthetically functional filler for providing the roofing material with an aesthetic appearance. The bulk filler and the aesthetically functional filler of this embodiment are non-toxic, resistant to microbial attack, and have a Mohs hardness of less than about 5.

Foamed polymer-fiber composites, building materials and methods of making such building materials are provided by this invention. The composites include about 35-75 wt. % of a polymeric resin, about 25-65 wt. % fiber and have a specific gravity of less than about 1.25 g/cc. The low density is provided by the introduction of a blowing agent or gas into a molten precursor of the composite during thermo forming, such as in an extrusion operation.

A plastic sheet exterior finishing panel is provided which includes an inner layer of foamed plastic material and an outer layer of non-foamed plastic material joined to the inner layer and defining a facing surface formed to convey a desired aesthetic effect. At least the outer layer includes at least one organic, cellulosic additive for enabling the facing surface to be painted or stained. The panel may also be supported by at least one rigid support spine disposed at least along a portion of the length of the sheet. The support spine may be formed integrally with the panel. Alternatively, the support spine may be formed as a separate material having a flexural modulus which is greater than the flexural modulus of the thermoplastic sheet so as to stiffen the panel during handling, installation and use; the separate support spine is fastened or bonded to the rear of the panel, or coextruded.
