A heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) unit. The unit comprises a heat exchanger or drain pan located inside a HVAC housing that has one or more access openings and ultraviolet light-sensitive components therein. The unit also comprises a light located inside of the HVAC housing and a light shield located between the heat exchanger or drain pan and the light source. The light source includes a network of open-ended cells, each cell having ultraviolet light reflective walls. The light shield is oriented to direct an ultraviolet light from the light source through the open-ended cells towards the heat exchanger or drain pan and away from the one or more access openings and ultraviolet light-sensitive components.

A HVAC unit manufacturing method and a HVAC system are, disclosed herein. In one embodiment, the HVAC system includes: a controller having control board terminals, a parallel wiring harness having a first and a second connection header, the first connection header coupled to the control board terminals, and a switch having terminals. The terminals of the switch including: a pair of functional terminals configured to indicate a status of the switch and a pair of jumpered terminals independent of the pair of functional terminals and internally connected together within the switch, wherein designated combinations of the terminals indicate a circuit configuration for employing the switch in the HVAC system with each of the terminals having a particular design that dictates a specific corresponding connection header be used for each of the designated combinations, wherein a single one of the designated combinations of the terminals corresponds to the second connection header.

A wiring connector housing including a housing body having first and second ends and at least one interference tab extending outwardly from the second end is provided. The wiring connector housing further comprises spaced apart channels located through the housing body extending from the first end to the second end with the first end of the channels each configured to receive a quick connector therein. Each of the second ends of the spaced apart channels being located to register with and receive corresponding quick connect terminals therein. The at least one interference tab is configured to contact an isolation ridge of an electrical relay and thereby prevent the second ends of the spaced apart channels from being improperly registered with the corresponding quick connect terminals.

A HVAC unit manufacturing method and a HVAC system are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, the HVAC system includes: a controller having control board terminals, a parallel wiring harness having a first and a second connection header, the first connection header coupled to the control board terminals, and a switch having terminals. The terminals of the switch including: a pair of functional terminals configured to indicate a status of the switch and a pair of jumpered terminals independent of the pair of functional terminals and internally connected together within the switch, wherein designated combinations of the terminals indicate a circuit configuration for employing the switch in the HVAC system with each of the terminals having a particular design that dictates a specific corresponding connection header be used for each of the designated combinations, wherein a single one of the designated combinations of the terminals corresponds to the second connection header.

In various implementations, a condition of a motor may be monitored based at least partially on time required to achieve a change in speed. A notification may be transmitted based on the condition of the motor.

Monitoring motor condition

A disclosed electrical contactor may include a line-side electrical terminal adapted for connection to an electrical conductor carrying an electrical voltage, multiple load-side connectors each having a housing and multiple electrical terminals arranged within a cavity of the housing, a switching element, and a control unit. Each of the load-side connectors is adapted to receive a plug connector. The switching element electrically connects the line-side electrical terminal to electrical terminal(s) of at least one of the load-side connectors when enabled. The control unit enables the switching element in response to a control signal. Each of the load devices may have a plug connector, and each of the load-side connectors may be mechanically coded to receive the plug connector of a corresponding load device. An electrical configuration of electrical terminals of a line-side connector may allow a crankcase heater, or a crankcase heater with thermostat, to receive electrical power.

A disclosed electrical relay may include a line electrical terminal adapted for connection to an electrical conductor carrying an electrical voltage, a normally-closed connector and a normally-open connector each having a housing and multiple electrical terminals arranged within a cavity of the housing, and a switching element. The switching element is configured to electrically connect the line electrical terminal to at least one of the electrical terminals of the normally-closed connector when not enabled, and to electrically connect the line electrical terminal to at least one of the electrical terminals of the normally-open connector when enabled. The normally-closed connector and the normally-open connector may be tab header connectors, and may be adapted to receive plug connectors of different devices. The electrical relay may include two normally-open connectors each having three electrical terminals, where corresponding electrical terminals of the normally-open connectors are electrically connected to one another.

A disclosed control signal routing apparatus includes a substrate, a routing connector having multiple electrical terminals and multiple portions, and multiple electrical conductors on or in the substrate. The terminals are arranged within a housing cavity. The conductors connect terminals of different portions of the routing connector. Each portion of the routing connector is adapted to receive a plug connector and includes two or more terminals. Another embodiment of the apparatus includes the substrate, multiple routing connectors, and a first and second set of conductor(s) on or in the substrate. Each routing connector includes a first, a second, and a third terminals, and two portions each adapted to receive a plug connector. The first set of conductor(s) connects the first terminals of routing connectors and sequential next routing connectors. The second set of conductor(s) connects third terminals of routing connectors to second terminals of sequential next routing connectors.

Control signal routing apparatus

An electrical device, a method of manufacturing a HVAC unit and a HVAC unit employing the electrical device are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, the electrical device includes: (1) a contact configured to indicate a status of the electrical device and (2) terminals configured to terminate connections, the terminals having: (2A) a pair of functional terminals internally connected across the contact and (2B) a pair of jumpered terminals independent of the pair of functional terminals and internally connected together. Designated combinations of the terminals indicate a circuit configuration for the electrical device with each of the terminals having a particular design that dictates a specific corresponding connection header be used for each of the designated combinations.

Device employable in different circuit configurations using parallel wiring harnesses, a HVAC system employing the device and a method of manufacturing a HVAC system

A wiring system for use in an air conditioning system comprising a printed circuit board having wiring receptacles and wiring connectors. In one aspect, at least some of the wiring receptacles comprise two or more wiring sub-receptacles, and each of the wiring sub-receptacles includes a slotted sub-receptacle connection pattern. Furthermore, the slotted sub-receptacle connection pattern of each of the wiring sub-receptacles is different from every other sub-receptacle connection pattern. Each of the wiring connectors includes a ridged connection pattern that is different from every other ridged connection pattern of the wiring connectors, such that a given wiring connector is receivable within only one of the wiring sub-receptacles. An air conditioning system and a method of manufacturing is also provided.
