A system may include a pre-charge stage and a voltage converter. The pre-charge stage may include a controller circuit configured to generate a control voltage and a current regulator electrically coupled to the controller circuit and configured to generate a first voltage, a second voltage, and a third voltage. The voltage converter may include a capacitor, a hold capacitor, and switches. The capacitor may include a first plate and a voltage on the first plate may be equal to the first voltage. The capacitor may include a second plate and a voltage on the second plate may be equal to the second voltage. The hold capacitor may include a plate and a voltage on the plate may be equal to the third voltage. The current regulator may be configured to regulate a current on the switches during accumulation of an initial charge on the capacitor and the hold capacitor.

Pre-charging a voltage converter

One or more embodiments of the present disclosure may include a method of power regulation. The method may include determining a peak voltage level on a primary winding of a transformer. The method may also include selecting a particular coarse current level window based on the determined current level. Wherein the particular coarse current level window is one of a plurality of coarse current level windows. The method may additionally include determining a low window value based on the particular coarse current level window. The method may include generating a reference voltage based on the low window value. The method may also include generating a control signal based on the reference voltage. The method may additionally include transmitting the control signal to a switch circuit coupled to the primary winding of the transformer to adjust the current level on the primary winding of the transformer.

Electrical circuit for delivering power to electronic devices

A system includes a boost circuit, a capacitive circuit, and a converter circuit. The boost circuit receives a DC signal at a first DC voltage and generates an intermediate AC signal at a first AC voltage based on the DC signal. The capacitive circuit receives the intermediate AC signal at the first AC voltage and generates an isolated AC signal at the first AC voltage based on the intermediate AC signal at the first AC voltage. The converter circuit receives the isolated AC signal at the first AC voltage; generates a first isolated DC signal at a second DC voltage based on the isolated AC signal at the first AC voltage; and generates a second isolated DC signal at a third DC voltage based on the first isolated DC signal at the second DC voltage. The third DC voltage may be less than the second DC voltage.

Electrical circuit for isolated voltage conversion

A boost circuit receives a DC signal at a first voltage, a duty clock, a reference at a second voltage, and a second intermediate signal at a fourth voltage; compares the reference and the second intermediate signal; generates a first intermediate signal at a third voltage based on the duty clock and the comparison of the reference and the second intermediate signal; and adjusts the third voltage to cause the fourth voltage to approach the second voltage based on the comparison of the reference and the second intermediate signal. The voltage converter receives the first intermediate signal at the second voltage and a clock and generates the second intermediate signal at the fourth voltage, which may be greater than the third voltage. The voltage driver receives the second intermediate signal at the fourth voltage and generates an AC signal at an AC voltage based on the second intermediate signal.

One or more embodiments of the present disclosure may include a method of power regulation. The method may include determining a current level on a primary winding of a transformer. The method may also include selecting a particular coarse current level window based on the determined current level. Wherein the particular coarse current level window is one of a plurality of coarse current level windows. The method may additionally include determining a low window value based on the particular coarse current level window. The method may include generating a reference voltage based on the low window value. The method may also include generating a control signal based on the reference voltage. The method may additionally include transmitting the control signal to a switch circuit coupled to the primary winding of the transformer to adjust the current level on the primary winding of the transformer.

An electrical circuit for providing electrical power for use in powering electronic devices, such as monitors, televisions, white goods, data centers, and telecom circuit boards, is described herein. The electrical circuit includes a voltage reduction circuit cell that includes a first capacitor, a second capacitor, a switching circuit, and a hold capacitor. The switching circuit includes a plurality of switching devices that are coupled to the first and the second capacitors for delivering power from an input terminal to an output terminal. The plurality of switching devices includes at least two switching devices that are coupled to ground. The voltage reduction circuit cell also includes a controller for operating the switching circuit in a plurality of operational modes to deliver an output power signal at a desired voltage level.

Electrical circuit for delivering power to consumer electronic devices

An electrical circuit for providing electrical power for use in powering electronic devices is described herein. The electrical circuit includes a primary power circuit and a secondary power circuit. The primary power circuit receives an alternating current (AC) input power signal from an electrical power source and generates an intermediate direct current (DC) power signal. The intermediate DC power signal is generated at a first voltage level that is less than a voltage level of the AC input power signal. The secondary power circuit receives the intermediate DC power signal from the primary power circuit and delivers an output DC power signal to an electronic device. The output DC power signal is delivered at an output voltage level that is less than the first voltage level of the intermediate DC power signal.

An electrical circuit for providing electrical power for use in powering electronic devices, such as monitors, televisions, white goods, data centers, and telecom circuit boards, is described herein. The electrical circuit includes an input terminal configured to receive an input power signal, an output terminal configured to provide an output power signal, and a forward converter coupled to the input and output terminals. The forward converter includes a transformer, and a primary side regulation circuit coupled to a primary side of the transformer. The primary side regulation circuit includes a switching device coupled to the primary side, a current sense circuit configured to sense a current level on the primary side, and a controller configured to generate a pulse-width modulated control signal delivered to the switching device as a function of the sensed current level to regulate the transformer to deliver the output power signal at a desired voltage level.

An electrical circuit for providing electrical power for use in powering electronic devices, such as monitors, televisions, white goods, data centers, and telecom circuit boards, is described herein. The electrical circuit includes an input terminal configured to receive an input power signal, an output terminal configured to provide an output power signal, and a plurality of voltage reduction circuit cells coupled between the input terminal and the output terminal. Each of the voltage reduction circuit cells includes a pair of flyback capacitors, a switching circuit, and a hold capacitor. The switching device is configured to operate the corresponding voltage reduction circuit cell at a charging phase and at a discharging phase. The plurality of voltage reduction circuit cells are configured to deliver the output power signal having a voltage level that is less than the voltage level of the input power signal.

A digital level shifter adapted to shift an input signal from switching in a low voltage range, to an output switching in a high voltage range has a glitch generator configured to generate pulses at rising and falling transitions of the input signal. Glitch generator output triggers a multiple-level current source to a high current mode, operating in a low current mode at other times. The current source feeds a differential pair of high voltage transistors with a first transistor of the pair having a gate coupled to the input signal and a second transistor of the pair having a gate coupled to a complement of the input signal. An active load and buffer circuit receives current from the differential pair and drives the output accordingly.
