A method and apparatus for identifying a caller who does not provide caller identification on an unanswered call. The caller is asked to record his/her name (or some other characteristic utterance). If the call is unanswered, the record is retained and can be accessed by the called party when that party requests his/her stored voice mail. Advantageously, even on unanswered calls, the identity of the caller can be presented to the called party when that called party requests stored voice mail messages, even if the calling party has private service.

Enhanced private call screening

A system that provides additional voice lines with data over a single two-wire subscriber loop. At the subscriber premise, one or more telephone instruments and data devices are connected to a digital modem into either a voice or a data interface. Analog voice signals are PCM sampled then packetized, and voice and data packets are transmitted to a CO modem over the subscriber loop. The CO modem depacketizes the voice packets into PCM format and transmits PCM voice information to a CO switch over a standard digital trunk interface. Data packets are routed to a data network. Voice packets are given transmission priority over data packets to ensures that voice is transported in the presence of data with low latency.

System for multiple voice lines with data over a single subscriber loop

A system that provides secure transmission of data between a subscriber's PC and an online service provider (OLS) over an Ethernet WAN. The system includes a remote transceiver unit located at a subscriber site and connected to the subscriber's PC; a central transceiver unit located at a telephone central office and connected to the remote transceiver unit over a twisted pair network and also connected to a WAN; an authorization server that is connected to the WAN; and one or more OLSs, which may include Internet service providers, connected to the WAN. Security of transmission is provided through a method in which only subscriber transmissions directed to a session-specific OLS are allowed to pass through the central transceiver unit onto the WAN, and only unicast transmissions from authorized OLSs are allowed to pass through the central transceiver unit to the subscriber port of the remote transceiver unit. Broadcast transmissions are minimized in favor of unicast messages. The authorization server delivers the IP and MAC addresses of the session-specific OLSs and the subscriber's PC to the remote transceiver units.

Wide area network system providing secure transmission

A bus monitor system comprises eight identical programmable monitor circuits that are each connected to a monitored bus and to a local 16-bit event bus. There are three interfaces to the event bus within each monitor circuit. One interface asserts a predetermined bit pattern on the event bus when match conditions occur between bit patterns on the monitored bus and predetermined bit patterns stored in monitor circuit registers. A second interface asserts a signal on an external pin when bit patterns on the event bus match a predetermined bit pattern stored in a monitor circuit register. A third interface asserts a predetermined bit pattern on the event bus when an external device has asserted a signal on an external pin. Each monitor circuit is capable of reading and asserting any of the bits of the event bus. The event bus is used to enable or disable monitor circuit interfaces. If any asserted bit on the event bus matches a corresponding bit of one of the predetermined bit patterns stored in the interface enable and disable registers, that interface will be enabled or disabled, respectively. The event bus gives the monitor system the ability to simultaneously monitor for multiple bit patterns on the monitored bus, and to monitor for a sequence of bit patterns by having one monitor circuit trigger another.

Bus monitor system

A device for gauging the depth of suture penetration and for easing the withdrawal of a suturing device is provided. The device has a sheath with a closed end, where the interior of the sheath is sized to fit over a finger, a plurality of tines positioned on the closed end and a device for firmly holding a suturing device positioned on the closed end. The tines are positioned so that a suturing device has at least one path across the surface of the closed end to the device for firmly holding a suturing device unobstructed by the tines. The sheath is generally constructed of material resistant to puncture or penetration by a suturing device. The device can be incorporated into one fingermember of a glove.

Apparatus for grasping a suturing device to ease withdrawal

A device for gauging the depth of suture penetration is provided. The device has a sheath with a closed end, where the interior of the sheath is sized to fit over a finger, and a plurality of tines positioned on the closed end so that a suturing device has at least one path across the surface of the closed end unobstructed by the tines. The sheath is generally constructed of material resistant to puncture or penetration by a suturing device. The device can be incorporated into a fingermember of a glove.

Device for gauging suture depth

A toy rocket to include a cylindrical body formed with a conical upper end portion, with the conical end portion formed of a flexible material, the cylindrical body formed of a rigid material and including a launcher structure, including a first conduit to receive a pneumatic air supply therethrough, with a first conduit orthogonally oriented and in pneumatic communication with a second conduit. The second conduit terminating in a sivel connection, with the swivel connection mounting a mounting tube thereon. The mounting tube is arranged for projection through a floor of the rocket into a first chamber containing a fluid propulsion medium therewithin. Pressurizing of the first chamber effects subsequent release of the rocket relative to the mounting tube for projection along a trajectory of flight.
