The present development is for a closure which provides a liner for abutting a surface and maintaining an effective pressure against a peelable seal affixed to a container lip as the sealed container is exposed to relatively high temperature and pressure conditions. The liner which abuts a surface of the seal sandwiches the seal between the liner and the container lip. The liner defines a resting thickness at ambient temperature and pressure conditions and is made from a material capable of being compressed to a thickness less than the resting thickness and of recovering to a recovery thickness sufficient to allow the liner to maintain a positive pressure against the seal upon exposure to elevated temperatures, elevated pressure, or a combination of elevated temperature and elevated pressure.

A self-draining container neck and closure comprising a container neck having an upper sidewall portion and a lower sidewall portion, the upper sidewall portion being inset from the lower sidewall portion. The container neck also includes a tamper indicating bead having at least one draining notch therein. The instant invention also includes a closure having a plurality of drainage slots disposed in a spaced configuration. The closure is threadably connected to the container neck, the closure and container threads rotatably engage and provide a drainage path there between.

An automatically opening pour spout fitment to be applied to a container over location where the container wall has a weakened area. The automatically opening fitment is comprised of a cap which is threadably attached to the fitment and which has a depending cam extending downward from the top wall. The fitment is comprised of a annular sidewall which defines a pouring zone and which provides a boundary for a hinged flap. The flap has an upwardly extending cam follower which is engaged by the cam of the cap such that when the cap is removed from the fitment, the cam initially applies a horizontal force on the cam follower to open the package to which the fitment is attached to.

A method of making a closure for a container is accomplished by providing a unitary mold with a mold cavity therein having vertically extending ribs and a rotatable and linearly movable threaded core element is received within the cavity. A formable plastic material is placed within the cavity and the core element is received within the cavity. Alternatively, the formable plastic material may be injected into the mold cavity. Upon contacting the formable plastic material with the core element the plastic material is forced around the outer surface of the core element and the inner surface of the cavity forming a closure with an internal thread and externally extending vertical ribs. The closure and the core element are backed out of the cavity wherein the core element is moved linearly and rotatably, but rotation of the closure is prevented. Once the core element is engaged with the internal threads of the closure only at the terminating end of the external threads of the core element, the article is completely removed from the cavity mold. Upon removal from the cavity mold, the weight of the closure in combination with gravity enables the closure to fall away from the core element. Alternatively, a concentric stripping ring or an ejector pin is used to cause the closure to fall away from the core element.

A safety closure providing a top wall, an annular outer wall depending downwardly from an outer periphery of the top wall, an annular inner wall depending downwardly from an underside surface of the top wall, and, at least one locking lug integrally molded with the outer wall, whereby downward displacement of the top wall causes outward displacement of the at least one locking lug.

A tamper indicating closure has a tamper indicating band which is retained on a container by a container neck flange without the use of a cooperating bead or flange on the tamper indicating band. The retention is accomplished by providing a flexure at the bottom of the cap skirt which permits the band to move outwardly over and under the container flange. The closure can have a tear strip which provides the flexure on the closure.

A method of injection molding a container cap with a precision thread having a tamper indicating band depending from the bottom of the cap skirt. Collet jaws form at least a frangible connection between the bottom of the cap skirt and the top of the tamper indicating band, and these jaws are moved radially outward specified amounts during the molding process to provide clearance for stripping an inwardly directed retaining element on the band from the core and for ejection of the finished cap.

A tamper indicating band depends from the bottom of the cap skirt by circumferentially spaced frangible connections. The band has ratchet teeth which engage ratchet teeth on the container neck, and a permanent tether rib connects the band to the cap so that the band remains with the cap when the closure is unthreaded from the container neck.
