A head cleaning disk for cleaning magnetic transducer heads in flexible computer disk drives. The head cleaning disk comprises a top fibrous wiping layer having a blend of low melt point and high melt point fibers, an inner composite layer of a multi-layer thermoplastic opaque film having two outside reflective layers of low melt point polymer and two inner layers of metal and film, and a bottom fibrous wiping layer having a blend of low melt point and high melt point fibers. The top, inner and bottom layers are bonded together by passing them between a pair of heated rolls which are under pressure. The heat from the rolls melts the low melt point fibers in the top and bottom fibrous layers and the outside reflective thermoplastic polymer of the inner layer thusly securing the layers together. The top and bottom fibrous layers provide sufficient abrasivity so when they contact the transducer heads they will remove debris from them without the use of cleaning solutions. In addition, the abrasivity of the top and bottom fibrous layers is controlled so there is insufficient abrasivity to damage the transducer heads. The inner opaque film layer permits activation of the optical system of the computer disk drive system thus permitting the transducer heads to be loaded onto the disk. The opaque layer also provides sufficient stiffness so that the cleaning disk can be rotated in its jacket without difficulty or malfunction.

Transducer head cleaning disk

An improved liner material for wiping debris from recording media to eliminate errors in the transmission of information with respect to the recording media. The liner material is a fibrous web which has fibrous surfaces and void volumes therein, the improvement being that the liner has at least one surface, with a fretting area of free vibratable fibers of at least 10% of the total surface, in contact with a surface of the recording media, and when vibrated against the recording media, and in contact with debris thereon, the free vibratable fibers impart energy to the debris causing the debris to move into the void volume of the liner, thus removing the debris from the recording media. The removal of debris from the recording media results in the error-free transfer of information from a recording transducer to and from a recording target media.

Floppy disk liner with improved cleaning ability

Nonwoven fabrics are described comprising a layered fabric having an inner layer of substantially thermoplastic material, for example Nylon 6 fibers, disposed adjacent and recessed bonded to at least one outer layer or a pair of outer layers of textile length fibers by means of heat and pressure. The thermoplastic fibers in the inner layer have a lower melting point than the outer fibers in the fabric. A nonwoven fabric constructed in this manner has qualities of; low levels of debris, high compressibility, low abrasiveness, and dimensional stability. These qualities are decidedly of use in many products, most particularly as a liner in computer diskettes, wherein a liner material must be used to wipe the magnetic disk within the computer diskette to keep it free of foreign particles, which may cause errors in the transfer of information onto or from the magnetic disk.
