An automotive tire pressure monitor with diversity antenna system employs a RF transmitter within each wheel/tire assembly and a vehicle mounted receiver with multiple receiving antennas. A first, primary antenna is located adjacent one vehicle window and a secondary antenna is located adjacent another vehicle window opposite the primary antenna. Both antennas are coupled to a receiver via a switch. The receiver feeds a processor, which is encoded to select the optimal antenna/receiver configuration based upon absolute signal strength (signal to noise), signal quality (completeness of encoded data) or signal reception rate. The signal received from the optimized antenna/receiver configuration is processed and transmitted to the host vehicle for system intervention and or display to an operator.

Tire pressure monitor with diversity antenna system and method

A method for monitoring tire pressure of a system is disclosed. The method includes the steps of detecting a signal other than that of an in-use tire pressure signals and in response to the detection of the signal, maintaining the proper reception of the in-use tire pressure signals by a receiver.

Tire pressure monitoring system and method

An electrical connector includes a housing having a cavity and a surface for engaging a window. The connector includes first and second compressible conductive contacts disposed within the cavity of the housing and in electrical contact with circuit elements in a coaxial cable. The compressible conductive contacts are compressed to contact circuit elements formed on the window when the surface of the housing is engaged to the window to provide electrical connections.

An antenna module provides signals received by an antenna to a communication system, such as a vehicle radio, wireless telephony system, or keyless entry system. The antenna module includes antenna circuitry having a terminal. When a compressible contact is compressed, it electrically couples this terminal to another terminal, which is disposed on a surface. A cover disposed over the antenna circuitry compresses the compressible contact when the cover is adhesively mounted to the surface. As a result, the terminals need not be soldered to the glass or other surface. Accordingly, the manufacturing process can be simplified. For example, the antenna module can be installed independently of other manufacturing processes.

In a preferred embodiment, an instrument display, including: indicator apparatus moveable to indicate a value on a scale; driving apparatus operatively connected to move the indicator apparatus along a path of movement; control apparatus to provide driving signals to the driving apparatus and to cause the driving apparatus to operate at a selected one of a normal torque condition and a reduced torque condition; and soft stop homing apparatus operatively connected to the driving apparatus to cause cessation of movement of the driving apparatus when the driving apparatus is operated at the reduced torque condition and the soft stop homing apparatus is engaged at a homing position and to permit free movement of the driving apparatus when the driving apparatus is operated at the normal torque condition even when the soft stop homing apparatus is engaged.
