A cutting tool has a first annular member at a proximal end portion of the cutting tool, a second annular member at a distal end portion of the cutting tool, and a plurality of curved side panels extending between the first annular member and the second annular member and coupled to the first and second annular members. The curved side panels are arranged about an axis of rotation of the cutting tool to form a hollow, tubular cutting structure, and include a plurality of cutting teeth oriented in a circumferential direction about the axis of rotation.

Surgical cutting tool

A sanitizing face mask inhibits the transmission of pathogens in air respired through the nose and mouth of a wearer. The mask includes hydrophobic inner and outer layers and an intermediate layer enclosed between them. The intermediate layer is saturated with a sanitizing liquid such as an ethanol solution. Respired air encounters the sanitizing liquid as it passes through the intermediate layer, killing pathogens borne on droplets or aerosols. The sanitizing mask protects the wearer, from pathogens in the inspired air, and others, from possible pathogens in the expired air of the wearer.

A combination patient-transfer air-inflated pad and intraoperative heater device has first and second interlocking chambers laterally fused together. The air-inflated pad has a top surface and a bottom surface formed by way of the first and second interlocking chambers. The first interlocking chamber is formed as a comb-type structure having a main spine with two or more prongs alternately separated by valleys. The second interlocking chamber is a mirror comb-type structure to the first interlocking chamber. The device is fabricated from two thin layers of plastic material, selectively configured and fused. With this construction, the bulk of the device, as well as the cost of manufacture, are reduced. The device is affordable for single use, obviating the difficulty and possible incompleteness of sterilization between uses. The first interlocking chamber has an inlet appointed to be supplied with regulated, controlled low pressure and controlled temperature heated or cooled air. The second interlocking chamber has a plurality of air venting apertures in said bottom surface of said air-inflated pad. The second interlocking chamber has an inlet appointed to be supplied with ambient air at a regulated, controlled pressure to facilitate lifting and lateral displacement during patient transfer. The device may be easily re-employed when the patient is transferred from one location to another and may function as an alternating pressure mattress if needed.

A system is provided for preparing prosthetic hip implantation. The system includes a first broach, a second broach, and a trial neck having a body portion and a neck portion. A proximal end of the first broach comprises a first base having a first maximum area. The body portion can be releasably coupled to the proximal end of the first broach so as to define a first offset between a medial end of the neck portion and a longitudinal axis of the first broach, or releasably coupled to the proximal end of the second broach so as to define a second offset between the medial end of the neck portion and a longitudinal axis of the second broach. The first offset is smaller than the second offset.

System and method for preparing prosthetic hip implantation

A mist generator improves sterility of blowers having controlled forced air for patient warmers and lifters. The mist generator has a main body including a top wall with an opening, that traverses into a chamber adapted to receive a disinfectant, side walls and a bottom wall. The main body further includes an inlet duct adapted for attachment to a first hose which, in turn, is adapted for attachment to an output opening of the blower for delivery into the chamber of forced air carrying misted disinfectant. The main body also includes an output duct adapted for attachment to a second hose which, in turn, is adapted for attachment to an inlet opening of the blower for delivery of disinfectant misted air through internal components of the blower. The mist generator improves sterility of the blower, thereby mitigating microbial contamination of patient warmers and lifters, and hospital environments.

Mist generator for sterilizing forced hot air intraoperative patient warmer with improved sterility

A mist generator improves the sterility of blowers having controlled forced air systems. In one embodiment, the mist generator has a chamber adapted to receive a disinfectant adapted for attachment to an output opening of a blower for delivery into the chamber of forced air carrying misted disinfectant. The main body also includes an output duct or aperture adapted for attachment to a second hose which, in turn, is adapted for attachment to an inlet opening of the blower for delivery of disinfectant misted air through internal components of the blower. Alternatively, there is used a disinfectant filter formed as a sterilizing grid having a screen coated with a soft porous surface material impregnated with a liquid disinfectant. The soft porous surface material releases said liquid disinfectant when forced air moves through the filter. In both embodiments, sterile water is introduced to take up residual disinfectant and the vapor captured in a dry filter or desiccant material and removed from the system. The mist generator improves the sterility of the blower to mitigate microbial contamination of forced air delivery systems.

A combination patient-transfer and intraoperative heater device has a top and bottom chamber separated by a barrier. The patient rests on the top chamber, which has a plurality of apertures for discharge of temperature-controlled filtered heated or cooled air at a regulated pressure for patient comfort and mitigation of infection. Heated or cooled filtered air is delivered to the area surrounding the patient, maintaining body temperature during anaesthesia. The bottom chamber has a plurality of apertures. When air pressure is low or off, the bottom chamber is flat and un-inflated. When air pressure is increased, air enters the bottom chamber and the apertures emit air, creating an air cushion facilitating lateral movement of the lifter device. The device performs two functions that now require separate devices and air blowers, it saves space and reduces both costs and complexity in the operating room while mitigating risk of infection.

Patient lifter with intraoperative controlled temperature air delivery system

A system for a closed circuit forced hot air warmer of patient beds and blankets with improved sterility has a patient mattress or blanket microprocessor controlled warmer that circulates heated air in a closed system without releasing warmed air into the area surrounding the patient or into the operating room. The system helps to avoid the exposure of patients and hospital workers in the operating room to possible infecting microbes carried in unsterile turbulent air currents related to the release of air from non-closed systems. The machinery and flexible hoses of the system are initially sterilized by a microprocessor controlled antimicrobial mist generator. The system does not discharge jets of warmed air due to the closed circuit arrangement. Turbulent air flow previously produced in the vicinity of the patient by high velocity air jets is eliminated. An ambient, quiescent condition accorded by closed circuit heating prevents infection of patients and operating room personnel by microbe migration.

Closed circuit forced hot air intraoperative patient warmer with improved sterility

A low cost disposable reamer shaft is made from a rod or tube stock of stainless steel, Nitinol or fiber reinforced polymer having a precise outer diameter in the range of 4 to 14 millimeter and is cut to a shaft length of 250 to 400 millimeters. An attachment piece with male or female thread matching a spherical hollow or tapered hollow reamer is machined and glued with epoxy on one end of the rod of tube stock using a precision centerline aligning jig. An attachment piece for connecting to a drive power unit is machined and glued with epoxy to the other end of the rod or tube stock thus forming a low cost disposable reamer shaft that aligns the centerline of the shaft with that of the reamer. The shaft contacts the reamer at two attachment locations that are displaced from each other, providing precise centerline alignment.

Disposable reamer shaft for modular spherical or tapered hollow reamer assembly for medical applications

A femoral hip stem explant system has an alignment body which is attached to two locations of a femoral bone and has several lockable collet type adjustment features to set the shaft of a reamer or end mill exactly in coincidence with the femoral bone cavity axis. The shaft of the end mill or reamer is supported by a sleeve member, which is inserted into a drill guide central aperture. The drill guide aperture is adjusted first and locked to be in line with the femoral bone cavity. Each of the sleeve members has the same mating outer diameter, which fits into the drill guide central aperture. Accordingly, the sleeve members can be interchanged into the drill guide aperture with shafts of differently sized reamers or end mills.

The cutting surface can have cutting edges with characteristics that vary along the cutting tool. Novel methods of manufacturing such cutting tools are also provided.

A cutting tool includes a cutting surface on a first side and an attachment member on a second side. The attachment member is configured to be coupled to a powered driving member. The cutting tool includes a limiting device configured to restrict the use of the cutting tool to a predetermined number of uses. The limiting device can be configured to restrict the number of uses of the cutting tool by restricting the number of times that the attachment member can be coupled to the powered driving member.

Medical cutting tool quality control systems and methods

An easy-to-assemble, disposable spherical hollow reamer for medical applications includes a shaft portion, a disposable spherical hollow reamer and a central conical plate. The shaft portion has a proximal end for attachment to a drill, a central conical element and a distal precision threaded screw end. The spherical hollow reamer has plurality of cutters and apertures that extend through its thickness. The spherical hollow reamer has a precision threaded aperture that engages with the threaded end of the reusable shaft precisely aligning the centerline of the shaft with that of the spherical hollow reamer, providing wobble free reaming action. The central conical plate in combination with the interior surface of the spherical hollow reamer forms an enclosed space for capturing bone fragment and bone cement debris.
