The dispenser of the present invention is adapted for placement in a body of liquid, a solution being contained in a vented product chamber of the dispenser, a predetermined volume of said solution being discharged into the body of liquid in response to a lowering of the level of the body of liquid from a first elevation to a second elevation and through a discharge means establishing fluid communication between said product chamber and the body of liquid. In accordance with the present invention, the vent means for the product chamber comprises an inverted U-shaped conduit extending upwardly above the top of the product chamber and hydraulic means adapted to delay the onset of discharge of solution from the product chamber to the body of liquid.

Passive dispenser having delayed discharge

An in-tank dispenser adapted to dispense a disinfectant solution when the toilet is flushed, the dispenser comprising a product chamber having a lower section and an upper section in fluid communication and containing a disinfectant material that releases gaseous material in aqueous solution, there being a shoulder at the interface of said sections, the cross-sectional area of the lower chamber in the plane horizontal thereto being larger than that of the upper chamber; an inlet/outlet pathway in the form of an inverted U-shaped conduit having an exterior leg and an interior leg, the uppermost portion thereof wherein the legs are joined being arcuate in shape and having a volume of less than about 0.50 cubic centimeter, said conduit being in fluid communication at the shoulder of the product chamber, the cross-sectional area normal to flow of the interior leg being less than that of the exterior leg; and vent means proximate the top of the upper section of the product chamber. The disinfectant may be selected from the group consisting of halogenated hydantoins, trichloroisocyanuric acid, and inorganic hypochlorite salts of calcium, lithium and magnesium.

Toilet tank dispenser

A passive dispenser for containing a quality of solution isolated from a body of liquid and for causing a predetermined volume of said solution to issue from the dispenser solely under conditions of gravity flow in response to the level of said body of liquid being lowered from a first elevation to a second elevation, said dispenser adapted for placement at the bottom of said body of liquid, comprising an upper section which is a cuplike member having an open bottom, the lower peripheral edge being an annular channel; a lower section which is a cuplike member having an open top, said cuplike members providing an internal reservoir for storage of cleaning solution formed upon dissolution of a water-soluble cake contained with said reservoir, the top peripheral edge of the lower section being disposed within said annular channel to define a discharge/refill conduit connecting said reservoir with the body of liquid and comprising two chambers in fluid communication with each other, one chamber being adjacent to said reservoir to form an air trap chamber and the other being adjacent to said body of liquid to form an air refill chamber, a transfer port connecting said air trap and air refill chambers, the cross-sectional area of said transfer port normal to fluid flow being smaller than the cross-sectional area of said air trap chamber normal to fluid flow such that air in said conduit is not completely displaced by said liquid when the level of the body of liquid rises from said second elevation to the first elevation, the air being entrapped in said air trap chamber and forming, upon cessation of flow into the reservoir, an air lock in said conduit that substantially isolates said solution from the body of liquid; and vent means above the discharge/refill conduit for air to vent from said reservoir.

Passive dispenser

A passive dispenser adapted for placement in a body of liquid for codispensing a first solution and a second solution in response to a lowering of the level of the body of liquid from a first elevation to a second elevation, the dispenser comprising a first chamber for storing said first solution having an inlet/outlet pathway comprising an interior conduit and an exterior conduit adapted to discharge said solution by siphon flow and further having a vent conduit extending to the atmosphere, and a second chamber for storing said second solution having a refill/discharge pathway comprising a conduit adjacent the chamber and a conduit adjacent the body of liquid and further having venting means, the refill/discharge pathway and venting means being adapted to isolate said second chamber from the body of liquid by means of the formation of air locks.

A passive dispenser adapted for placement in a body of liquid for dispensing materials, such as toilet tank additives, e.g., disinfectants, detergents, dyes, fragrances, and the like, in solution form from the dispenser in response to a lowering of the height of the body of liquid from a first elevation to a second elevation, the dispenser comprising two dispensing sections, the first dispensing section comprising a first product chamber containing a water-soluble cake, forming upon dissolution the first solution, and the second dispensing section comprising a second product chamber and a third product chamber, each said chamber containing a water-soluble cake, forming upon dissolution the second solution, the third chamber being disposed at least partially above the second chamber, there being fluid communication means therebetween, said second section being in separate relationship from the first section. When adapted for use as a toilet tank dispenser, the cake contained in the first section is a surfactant cake, containing in addition to one or more surface-active constituents optional ingredients such as dyes and fragrances, while the cakes contained in the second section are disinfectant cakes containing a halogen-releasing agent having a water solubility of less than 5.0 gms./100 gms. water at 77.degree. F.

A passive dispenser for codispensing a predetermined volume of a first and a second solution into a body of liquid in response to a decrease in the level of said body of liquid comprising a first product chamber having a vent conduit and a refill/discharge pathway, and a second product chamber serially connected to a third product chamber thereabove by means of a conduit entering the second product chamber proximate the bottom thereof, said second and third product chambers having respective vent conduits and said second product chamber having a refill/discharge pathway, said pathways being siphon conduits.

The present invention provides a passive dispenser for use in a toilet tank in which the solution to be dispensed is isolated from the water in the toilet tank. The dispenser comprises of internal reservoir for storing a quantity of the solution, an upper venting means having passive means to provide an upper air-lock, and discharge/refill conduit disposed below the upper venting means, the conduit comprising an air trap chamber and an air refill chamber connected by a transfer port so as to provide a lower air-lock for isolating the solution from the water in the toilet tank.
