A closure having a device for lifting a liner from a container opening. The lifting device being a finger projecting from a hinge connection within the closure. The hinge connection is positioned from a depending skirt of the closure. The hinged finger disengages the liner from a sealing engagement with the container while engaging along substantially the same annulus spaced from the liner edge. A plurality of the hinged fingers may be used for the lifting device. The closure may be used in various retort and aseptic applications, as well as provide for tamper indication.

A peelable seal having one or more layers for sealing containers by heat sealing may include a stiffening structure, a foil portion, and a sealant structure. The stiffening structure of the seal includes an outer periphery or overhanging portion which extends beyond the rim of a neck of a container thereby allowing the peelable seal to be loosened from the container by flicking the overhanging portion of the peelable seal with a portion of the hand and without the need to pinch the seal.

A self peelable seal having one or more layers for sealing containers by heat induction, conduction, or other means and having a stiffening structure. A portion of the seal is axially retained within a closure thereby allowing the peelable seal to be loosened from the container neck by placing a lifting force on the seal with the closure upon removal of the closure from the container.

A dispensing system having a reverse taper dispensing orifice seal. The reverse tapered seal depends from a lid of a flip-top closure providing a sealing engagement with a dispensing spout of the flip-top closure body when in a closed position. As the dispensing spout may have a variety of shapes, the reverse tapered seal is shaped to conform to the irregularities of the contacted surfaces of the dispensing spout. The decreasing thickness of the reverse tapered seal decreases the complexity of the molding process as well as minimizing the weakening or breaking of the seal during removal from the mold cavity.

A closure is described which incorporates an additive delivery system integral with the closure. The system includes a dosing chamber formed in the closure, the dosing chamber exhausting the contents into the container upon initial unthreading of the closure from the container. The design prevents premature dosing of the chamber into the container and also allows the dosing chamber to be pressurized if so desired.

A blister pack container having child resistant characteristics yet, which can be opened with one hand. The container has a top tray and a bottom tray preferably connected by a hinge. The top and bottom trays each have a tab extending therefrom. Each of the tabs has at least one aperture through which a button passes and locks the container in a closed position. The finger pads can be unlocked with an inward and downward force thereby opening the container.

A self-sealing, tamper-evident closure including a cap body and an integrally-formed gasket valve is provided for use on a container. The cap body includes a tab integrally molded onto a removable frangible portion which breaks away from the cap body and exposes a self-sealing, flexible gasket valve. The gasket valve is molded in place on an inner surface of the cap body and includes a longitudinal slit to provide a dispensing orifice. A method for making a closure of the present invention is also disclosed, wherein an integral cap body is formed by injection molding, a quantity of liquid gasket material is deposited within a pocket formed on the cap body, a flexible gasket valve is formed by the liquid gasket valve material curing in place within the pocket and a longitudinal slit is imposed through the gasket valve to provide a dispensing orifice.

An adapter band for use on a closure, the closure being threadingly engageable with a container neck portion, the container neck portion having at least one locking ramp projecting therefrom, the adapter band providing an annular ring having a groove on an inner surface thereof, the groove being sized to receive an annular lip projecting outwardly from a lower end of the closure; a locking lug extending downwardly from the groove mateable with a recess in the annular lip; and, at least one locking tab projecting from the annular ring, the at least one locking tab being engageable with the at least one locking ramp provided on the container neck portion.

Child-resistant adapter band

A child resistant closure having a visible external locking tab which cooperates with a locking stop on a container. A threaded inner cap remains sealed while the child resistant locking tab is locked from the position of locking to a tightened position. An outer cap is rotated to engage cooperating drive means for closing or opening the closure. When the closure is reapplied, the user is assured that it is sealed when he observes that the child resistant tab is engaged.

A two piece dispensing closure for a container in which one piece is a cap having means for attachment to the container such as internal threads which engage external threads on the container and a flat top having a dispensing orifice. The second piece of the closure is a lid connected to the cap by a detachable hinge. The hinge is constructed with a pair of posts projecting adjacent the perimeter of the cap or lid into slots in the other of the cap and lid to permit movement between a closed position in which the dispensing lid is covered to an open dispensing position. The hinge is hidden in the closed position providing a pleasing symmetrical appearance.

A child resistant, safety container molded of plastic material as a single unit which includes a pair of tray members joined together by a pliable hinge requiring two dissimilar movements of the tray members relative to each other to open the container, such movements requiring twisting of the tray members relative to each other and subsequent swinging movement of the tray members to an open position.

A tamper indicating closure including an outer cap and an inner liner which relies on relative movement of the outer cap and the inner liner during opening movement to indicate tampering of the container after it has been sealed for the first time, the relative movement being insured by a means which coact with the container to resist rotation of the liner and maintain the container in a sealed condition while the outer cap is being rotated in an opening direction. Once opened, the outer cap and the inner liner are maintained in a position for movement as a unit in both the opening and closing direction of the closure.

Tamper indicating closure

A child-resistant and tamper indicating overcap for a pressurized container, such as an aerosol can, having a valve with an axially protruding discharge nozzle which must be depressed to actuate the valve for discharging the contents of the container. The overcap includes a valve guard slidable between a radially outer position in which a portion of the guard overlies the nozzle for preventing actuation thereof and an inner position in which the nozzle can be depressed. A removable tamper indicating tab is connected to the guard to prevent movement of the guard to an actuating position until it is removed. The overcap includes a resilient portion of the guard which biases the guard toward its outer position and which must be overcome in order to move the guard to its inner position and which returns the guard to its outer position when the guard is released.

A child-resistant package consists of a container having an open-ended neck and a cap having a top and an annular skirt which telescopes over the container neck. There are co-operating snap-over retainers on the exterior of the neck and the interior of the cap skirt which require the cap to be moved axially a distance greater than the axial over-lap of the retainers in order to remove the cap. The container neck and the cap skirt also have a radially extending lug and a circumferentially extending ramp that are moved into engageable alignment by flexing the cap skirt inwardly. The ramp has a surface which is inclined relative to the axis of the neck and cap skirt and which has an axial height greater than the distance of axial over-lap of the retainers. In order to remove the cap, the skirt is flexed inwardly to align the lug with the ramp surface and the cap is rotated relative to the container neck causing the cap to be moved axially a distance sufficient to disengage the over-lapped retainers. A stop bar is formed near the beginning end of the ramp which is spaced circumferentially from the ramp a distance only slightly greater than the circumferential width of the lug so that the lug must be inserted into such space when the skirt is flexed inwardly in order to engage the lug with the ramp when the cap is rotated relative to the container for removing the cap.
