There is provided a system and method for user generated gameplay in chat. The system including a memory storing a text and multimedia messaging software application, and a processor configured to execute the text and multimedia messaging software application to initiate a message exchange session with a remote mobile device, in response to a request received from a user of the mobile device, the message exchange session displaying a user interface for exchanging text and multimedia messages, provide a plurality of games for selection by the user to be played during the message exchange session and within the user interface for exchanging text and multimedia messages, receive a selection of one of the plurality of games by the user after initiating the message exchange session, and initiate the one of the plurality of games for playing within the user interface for exchanging text and multimedia messages.

According to one implementation, a dual-mode augmented reality and virtual reality viewer (AR/VR viewer) includes a device configured to provide AR and VR effects, the device including a display screen, a VR shield, and a transparency control unit coupled to the VR shield. The AR/VR viewer also includes a computing platform for generating the AR and VR effects communicatively coupled to the device. The display screen has a user facing first surface for receiving the AR and VR effects, and a second surface opposite the user facing first surface. The display screen or a transmissive layer adjoining the display screen is configured to have a variable transparency. The VR shield is configured to be one of substantially transparent in an AR mode and substantially opaque in a VR mode under the control of the transparency control unit.

Techniques for aligning a virtual object with a physical object in an Augmented Reality (AR) or Virtual Reality (VR) application are described. An electronic peripheral includes a first inertial measurement unit ('IMU'). A head mounted display includes a second IMU. An estimated attitude for the electronic peripheral is generated using data from the first IMU. An estimated attitude for the head mounted display is generated using data from the second IMU. An orientation of a virtual object is determined based on the estimated first and second attitudes, such that the virtual object is aligned with an object in a user's physical environment when the virtual object is displayed to the user. The virtual object is displayed on the head mounted display.

System and method for aligning virtual objects on peripheral devices in low-cost augmented reality/virtual reality slip-in systems

Embodiments provide for tracking location and resolving drift in Augmented Reality (AR) devices. The AR devices includes computing devices having screens on a first face and cameras on a second, opposite face to project an image onto optical arrangements for viewing by wearers of the AR devices. The AR devices map locations for real objects in the environment to a virtual environment; anchor virtual objects at anchor locations within the virtual environment; capture station keeping images of the environment from a first Field of View via the camera; determine a second, different Field of View in the environment for the wearer of the AR device based on the relative locations of real objects present in the station keeping images; and output images depicting the virtual objects at positions on the screen to depict the virtual objects in the physical environment at the anchor locations.
