A method for calibrating a downhole tool may comprise disposing a downhole tool in a borehole, transmitting a signal from a master module disposed on the first device to a module disposed on the second device, transmitting a return signal from the module to the master module, receiving the return signal with the master module, measuring a tone enabled delay for the signal to travel from the master module to the module, and determining a time delay of a return signal to travel from the module to the master module. A well measurement system may comprise a downhole tool. The downhole tool may further comprise a first device and a master module disposed on the first device, wherein the master module may comprise a master transmitter and a master receiver. In examples, the downhole tool may further comprise a second device and a module disposed on the second device.

Clock calibration of remote systems by roundtrip time

A reduced-cost apparatus for calibrating the sensitivity and orthogonality of a triaxial magnetometer, and a method for adjusting the distance between the two coils of a Helmholtz coil and other related parameters are described herein. A method can include positioning a calibrated magnetometer within a mounting fixture between two coils of a Helmholtz coil, the two coils arranged in mutually parallel planes and separated by the radius of the Helmholtz coil, the mounting fixture mounted such that a position of the mounting fixture is adjustable along an axis orthogonal to the mutually parallel planes; adjusting the position of the mounting fixture over at least some of the positions and measuring the magnetic field at each position to generate a set of magnetic field measurements associated with the positions; and adjusting the first distance based on the first set of magnetic field measurements. Calibration of sensitivity and axial orthogonality for magnetometers

An apparatus and method may operate to mount an electrode assembly with the exterior of a casing string to be placed in a borehole in a subterranean formation. The electrode assembly may include electrodes in spaced relation to one another. After the casing string and associated electrode assembly are in the borehole, the method may include providing a series of excitation signals at a plurality of frequencies to at least one electrode to inject a series of injection signals into fluid in the annulus. The method can further include receiving signals in response to the series of injection signals through at least one other electrode. The received signals can be representative of an impedance spectrum including impedance values representative of the fluid in the borehole annulus. The method can further include identifying the fluid in reference to the impedance spectrum. Additional apparatus, systems, and methods are disclosed.

Wellbore fluid discrimination using impedance spectra characteristics

A magnetic field measurement device includes an excitation circuit including an excitation coil that is coupled to a resonation control circuit. The excitation coil is wound around an amorphous soft magnetic core. The magnetic field measurement device includes a detection circuit including a detection coil that is wound around the amorphous soft magnetic core. The resonation control circuit is coupled to the excitation circuit and to the detection circuit to adjust a resonant frequency of the detection circuit responsive to temperature variations of the amorphous soft magnetic core.

Low-noise fluxgate magnetometer with increased operating temperature range

An apparatus and method may operate to position an electrode assembly within a fluid. The electrode assembly may include an injection electrode and a receiving electrode in spaced relation to one another. The method may include providing a series of excitation signals at a plurality of frequencies to the injection electrode to inject a series of injection signals into the fluid. The method can further include receiving signals in response to the series of injection signals through the receiving electrode. The received signals can be representative of an impedance spectrum including impedance values representative of the fluid. The method can further include generating a phase angle fingerprint based on the impedance spectrum to characterize the fluid according to the phase angle fingerprint. Fluid characterization apparatus, systems, and methods

Embodiments include well ranging apparatus, systems, and methods which operate to measure a total magnetic field strength at each of three sensors attached to a down hole tool housing, wherein each sensor is to provide normal, tangential, and longitudinal field strength component amplitude values, and wherein at least one of the sensors is attached to the housing spaced approximately equidistant from the other two sensors in an azimuthal plane of the housing, and wherein each of the sensors is spaced apart from the other sensors in a longitudinal direction of the housing. Further activity includes determining at least three gradient field values from the total magnetic field strength measured by the three sensors, and determining an approximate range from a first well in which the sensors are disposed, to a casing of a second well, using the at least three gradient field values. Well ranging apparatus, systems, and methods

In some embodiments, an apparatus and a system, as well as a method and an article, may include synchronic symmetrical integrator circuitry and a magnetic field measurement device comprising an excitation circuit including an excitation coil, the excitation coil being wound around an amorphous soft magnetic core having a certain temperature coefficient such that inductance of the excitation circuit will change with temperature variations of the amorphous soft magnetic core; a detection circuit including a detection coil, the detection coil being wound around the same amorphous soft magnetic core, such that inductance variation of the detection circuit with temperature of the core can be detected from the excitation coil; and a resonation control circuit coupled to the excitation circuit and to the detection circuit to adjust a resonant frequency of the detection circuit responsive to temperature variations of the core. In one example of rotational ranging in a wellbore in which a wellbore component having an axis of rotation is disposed, a wellbore ranging sensor is disposed on a circumferential area surrounding the axis of rotation. The sensor is moved on the circumferential area to multiple distinct sensing positions. At each sensing position, a magnetic field from another wellbore that is apart from the wellbore is measured resulting in multiple magnetic field measurements at the multiple distinct sensing positions. The multiple magnetic field measurements are provided to determine a position of the wellbore relative to the other wellbore using at least a subset of the multiple magnetic field measurements.

Rotational wellbore ranging

An apparatus includes a pair of connectors and two or more conductive paths formed in each connector in the pair of connectors. The pair of connectors includes a first connector and a second connector. The first connector is substantially more flexible than the second connector, and each connector in the pair of connectors includes a bulkhead. Each of the two or more conductive paths in each connector in the pair of connectors is electrically isolated from all other conductive elements in the respective connector. A shroud may be located between the bulkheads and disposed about the pair of connectors when the pair of connectors are coupled together electrically.

Disclosed herein are electromagnetic resistivity logging systems and methods that employ magnetic dipole antennas embedded in wall-contacting surfaces. In some embodiments, the antennas are pot-core or ferrite-rod antennas. Prototypes of electromagnetic resistivity logging tools having such antennas exhibit good resistivity logging performance in both water-based and oil-based borehole fluids, indicating that this architecture may yield a logging tool that is suitable for use with borehole fluids of all types. Moreover, the tool offers good spatial resolution, enabling the creation of formation resistivity images for the borehole walls.

Systems and methods having pot core antennas for electromagnetic resistivity logging

An apparatus includes a pair of connectors, two or more conductive paths formed in each connector in the pair of connectors, and a shroud encompassing at least a portion of the pair of connectors. The pair of connectors includes a first connector and a second connector. A flexible coupling can be formed between each of the two-or-more isolated bulkhead conductive paths and each of the two-or-more isolated non-bulkhead conductive paths to form a flexible connector. Another example method can include assembling, at least partially, a connector having a groove, securing a flexible member in the groove, and flowing solder into the flexible member in the groove.
