A load cell body for transmitting forces and moments in plural directions is disclosed. The load cell body comprises a first member, a second member and a plurality of pairs of support columns. The second member includes a plurality of apertures, where a portion of a plurality of portions of the first member extends into each aperture. The plurality of pairs of support column columns are configured for each portion of the first member and the corresponding aperture of the second member, such that each pair of support columns connects the corresponding portion of the first member to the second member.

Multi axis load cell body

A tire testing machine includes a tire and wheel assembly having a sensor configured to measure a parameter related to the tire and wheel assembly as it rotates on a rotating element. A holder supports the tire and wheel assembly. A processor is configured to receive an input at least based on the output signal from the sensor, and provide an output signal indicative of a parameter of a contact patch between a tire of the tire and wheel assembly and the rotating element. Controlled element(s) are configured to vary a parameter related to the contact patch and/or friction.

Tire testing apparatus

A testing machine includes a frame and a roadway assembly. The roadway assembly includes an endless belt and a carriage supporting the endless belt for rotation on the carriage and providing flat portion in the endless belt. The carriage is pivotally coupled to the frame to move relative to the frame about at least one axis. The carriage includes a bearing arranged to support an inner surface of the flat portion of the endless belt. A spindle carriage has a spindle arranged to support a tire and wheel assembly. The spindle carriage is movably mounted on the frame to move the spindle toward and away from the flat portion. A drive is operably coupled to the roadway assembly or the spindle. An actuator controls pivotal movement of the roadway assembly about said at least one axis. A method of ascertaining rolling loss of a tire mounted to such a machine is also provided.

An apparatus and method of operating a rolling wheel testing apparatus includes driving a tire and wheel assembly about an axis of rotation with a tire in rolling contact with a rotatable drum. Torque is sensed about the axis of rotation and rotation of the drum is inhibited so as to develop a selected amount of torque about the axis of rotation as the tire and wheel assembly is rotated.

Drum braking system for rolling wheel testing apparatus

A tire and/or wheel testing machine and method for operating the same allows testing without removal of a drive motor that is only used during some of the tests. One aspect is a testing machine wherein the drive motor is supported by a support member so that the motor axis intersects with a spindle plane having the spindle axis. Another aspect includes a coupling assembly allowing selective decoupling of the motor shaft with the spindle hub.

Spindle assembly for a tire or wheel testing machine

An apparatus determines the position of an object with respect to a reference coordinate system. Preferably, the apparatus includes a target attached to the object, the target moves within a defined region and has a surface with a first pattern thereon. A projection device projects a second pattern upon the surface. A sensing device provides an image signal indicative of the target surface including the first pattern and the second pattern. An analyzer receives the image signal and determines the position of the object based on the position of images of the first pattern and the second pattern.
