In certain embodiments a dental strip for the prevention or reduction of dental caries is provided. In certain embodiments the dental strip is constructed to deliver effective amounts of specifically targeted antimicrobial peptides (or simple antimicrobial peptides) and comprises an orally compatible backing layer, a delivery layer disposed on one surface of the backing layer where the delivery layer comprises an orally compatible polymer, or combination of polymers, and a specifically targeted antimicrobial peptide (and/or simple antimicrobial peptide) capable of binding and killing. In certain embodiments the dental strip additionally comprises a release liner.

Dental strips for the delivery of specifically targeted antimicrobial peptides

In various embodiments a dental varnish system having improved peptide release and fluoride release properties is provided. In various embodiments a dental varnish system that provides release of an antimicrobial peptide, or specifically targeted antimicrobial peptide (STAMP), e.g., the peptide C16G2, is provided, with or without a fluoride. In various embodiments, a dental varnish system that provides release of a fluoride, with or without an antimicrobial peptide or STAMP is provided. In certain embodiments the dental varnish system comprises a first component that is a dry powder, said first component comprising a an antimicrobial peptide, with or without a fluoride, and a bulking agent, and a second component that is a fluid, said second component comprising a varnish solution, where combination of said first component with said second component provides a varnish formulation for application to the surface of a tooth.

Dental varnishes that release specifically targeted antimicrobial peptides and/or fluoride

The present invention relates to targeting peptides capable of specifically binding to microbial organisms (e.g.,or), antimicrobial peptides having antimicrobial activities, and specifically/selectively targeted antimicrobial peptides (STAMPs). In addition, the present invention provides methods of selectively killing or inhibiting microbial organisms by using the peptides or compositions provided by the present invention.

Selectively targeted antimicrobial peptides and the use thereof

This invention provides novel targeted antimicrobial compositions. In various embodiments chimeric moieties are provided comprising an antimicrobial peptide attached to a peptide targeting moiety that binds a bacterial strain or species.

This invention provides novel antimicrobial peptides and formulations thereof. The peptides and/or formulations are effective to kill or to inhibit the growth and/or proliferation of various bacteria, yeast, and fungi.

Antibacterial and antifungal peptides

This invention provides novel antimicrobial peptides that are effective to inhibit growth and/or proliferation of various gram positive bacteria. In particular, the peptides are effective againsta common oral pathogen and the causative agent of dental caries.

Antimicrobial peptides

The present invention is based on the discovery of a composition that provides targeted anti-microbial effect. Specifically the composition contains a targeting moiety which recognizes a target microbial organism and an anti-microbial peptide moiety which has anti-microbial activity. In addition, the present invention provides methods of treating a microbial infection, e.g., on mucosal surfaces by using the compositions provided by the present invention.
