Method and kits for the diagnosis of influenza

A device and kit and method for controlling coagulation in a blood sample. The coagulation controlling agent is at least one of citrate, a protamine salt, its homologs and derivatives, benzamidine, or para-aminobenzamidine. Additives such as water soluble polymers and sugars are also contemplated. The device and kit comprise a container that contains an effective amount of thrombin and a coagulation controlling agent. The method combines thrombin and a coagulation controlling agent to stabilize thrombin or accelerate its activity in a blood sample.

Coagulation controlling agents and devices comprising the same

A method for immunoassay of a viral antigen is performed on a membrane precoated with an inert protein. Nonimmunological capture of antigen takes place by absorption onto the coated membrane. Captured antigen binds to a tracer which includes a label conjugated to a specific antibody, the inert protein concomitantly inhibiting nonspecific binding of tracer. The label may be an enzyme which converts a substrate to a detectable product or converts a blocked inhibitor to an inhibitor whereby a second enzyme is inhibited from converting a substrate to a product. The invention includes a kit of materials for performing an assay in accordance with the method of the invention.

Immunoassay on a preblocked solid surface

The present invention relates to a method for preparing proteins or peptides for iontophoretic delivery by modifying said proteins or peptides, by hydrophobic bonding of acharged molecule to a hydrophobic region of the protein or peptide, to have an isoelectric point of less than about 4.0 or greater than about 7.3 with an electrostatic charge of at least plus or minus 1 over the pH range of about 4.0 to about 7.3. Another embodiment of the present invention relates to a device for delivery of a protein or peptide having an isoelectric point of less than about 4.0 or greater than about 7.3 with an electrostatic charge of at least plus or minus 1 over the pH range of about 4.0 to about 7.3.

Molecules for iontophoretic delivery

A user activated iontophoretic device of the present invention includes an electrode assembly, an electrode reservoir and at least one drug reservoir. The device is divided or otherwise separated into at least two portions, with one portion containing the electrode reservoir and the other containing the drug reservoir, which may include a medication in a dry form. In one embodiment, the two portions are each contained in separate compartments of a pouch. In another embodiment, the portions are contained in a single compartment and divided by a barrier. A method of activating the device includes causing the two portions to come into electrical conducting contact with one another to at least partially hydrate one of the reservoirs. This can be accomplished, for example, by either folding the device to bring the two portions into contact with one another or simply by removing the barrier dividing the two portions. In the alternative, the device may include two separate portions which can be brought together to activate the device. In this way, the device is suitable for use to deliver a high dose efficiency, while providing a commercially suitable shelf-life.

User activated iontophoertic device

Chromogenic and fluorogenic substrates for .beta.-lactamase, methods for synthesis thereof and methods for detecting .beta.-lactamase in a sample are provided. The substrates are substantially colorless or substantially nonfluorescent .beta.-lactam compounds which include an electronegative leaving group. The leaving group comprises a carbamate, carbonate, thiocarbamate or thiocarbonate linkage and a fluorescent moiety or a moiety capable of producing a visually detectable colored product. Upon cleavage of the lactam ring by .beta.-lactamase, the leaving group is liberated and fluorescence or a colored product is produced.

The invention discloses peptides and proteins for iontophoretic delivery. Specifically disclosed are methods for iontophoretic delivery of assemblages of amino acids which comprises modifying said assemblages of amino acids to an isoelectric point less than about 4.0 or greater than about 7.3 with an electrostatic charge of plus or minus 1 and patches with assemblages of amino acids with isoelectric points less than about 4.0 or greater than about 7.3 with an electrostatic charge of plus or minus 1.

Fluorescent pH indicator compounds which exhibit an increase in fluorescence intensity with decreasing pH. The indicators are derivatives of rhodamine and sulforhodamine type dyes and are particularly useful for measuring pH in acidic environments such as carbon dioxide production by microorganisms and pH of certain acidic intracellular compartments.
