A rocker shaft assembly configured to support a rocker arm and deliver oil to the rocker arm and related method of making is provided. The rocker shaft assembly includes a core shaft and a sleeve. The core shaft has a core body including a main oil supply channel formed thereon. The sleeve has passages formed thereon. The sleeve is disposed around the core shaft. The main oil supply channel aligns with at least one of the passages on the sleeve. The main oil supply is milled into the core shaft.

A switching roller finger follower (SRFF) for valve actuation includes an outer arm (), a first inner arm (), a bearing axle () and a latch pin (). The outer arm () is formed of a metal stamping, and is pivotally coupled to a main axle (). The first inner arm () is coupled to the main axle () and is pivotably secure to the outer arm. The bearing axle () extends through the outer arm and the first inner arm. The bearing axle supports a roller () thereon. The latch pin () is slidably disposed in the outer arm () and is movable between at least a first position where the outer arm () and the first inner arm () are coupled for concurrent rotation and a second position wherein one of the outer arm and the first inner arm are configured to rotate relative to the other arm.

A rocker arm assembly for pivoting around a rocker shaft comprises a follower side arm, a valve side arm, and a latch assembly. The follower side arm comprises a main body (), a rocker shaft through-bore (), and a follower end () comprising a latch through-bore (). The valve side arm comprises a forked body () and a valve end () extending from the forked body. A first arm extension () and a second arm extension () extend from the forked body and straddle the main body. A first distal end () comprises a first latch pocket () distal from the forked body. A second distal end () comprises a second latch pocket () distal from the forked body. The latch through-bore selectively aligns with the first latch pocket and the second latch pocket.

A castellation assembly comprises a lost motion spring assembly, an upper castellation piece, and a lower castellation piece. A spring hat comprises a crown, a pin hole through the crown, and a brim. A lost motion spring is seated against the spring hat. Upper castellation piece comprises a tubular body, an upper inner rim adjoining the brim, and upper castellation teeth. Lower castellation piece comprises a spring post extending up from a castellation body, the spring post passing through the lost motion spring, and through the pin hole. Lower castellation teeth extend from the castellation body. The lost motion spring is biased against the castellation body to lift the upper inner rim by the brim. A lash screw can house the spring post so that the spring post terminates inside the lash screw. A rocker arm is an example of a castellation assembly installation.

A valve train arrangement constructed in accordance to one example of the present teachings includes a rocker arm, a deactivating hydraulic lash adjuster (HLA) capsule, a lost motion spring (LMS) capsule and a lever. The rocker arm has a first end and a second end. The second end cooperates with a valve. The HLA capsule cooperates with the first end of the rocker arm. The LMS capsule has a lost motion spring. The LMS capsule is located in a position on the valve train arrangement that is offset from the HLA capsule. The lever is configured between the HLA capsule and the LMS capsule. During cylinder deactivation, load is transferred from the HLA capsule to the lever arm and ultimately to the lost motion spring in the LMS capsule.

A type III rocker arm assembly operable in a first mode and a second mode based on rotation of a cam shaft includes a rocker shaft and a first rocker arm assembly. The first rocker arm assembly receives the rocker shaft and is configured to rotate around the rocker shaft in the first mode based on engagement with the first cam lobe. The first rocker arm assembly collectively comprises a valve side rocker arm, a cam side rocker arm and a latch pin. The valve side rocker arm defines a valve side rocker arm bore. The cam side rocker arm defines a cam side rocker arm bore. The latch pin assembly is received by the valve and cam side rocker arm bores and selectively couples the valve side rocker arm and the cam side rocker arm for concurrent movement in the first mode.

An engine system and valvetrain can comprise a rocker shaft combined with a first block, a first cylinder deactivation oil control valve in the first block, a second cylinder deactivation oil control valve in the first block. Also, a second block can be combined with the rocker shaft with a third cylinder deactivation oil control valve and an early exhaust valve opening oil control valve in the second block. The rocker shaft can comprise oil infeeds and oil outfeeds configured for supplying hydraulic pressure to the first and second blocks, the blocks can distribute the pressure to the control valves, and the blocks can return pressure to the rocker shaft. Intake and exhaust rocker arms can receive the returned pressure to actuate valves, and the rockers arms can be arranged line-to-line with no overlap during motion.
