A method of controlling a demulsifier dosage to an AC/DC modulated coalescer is described. The method includes monitoring a characteristic of an electric current drawn by an electrical component of the AC/DC modulated coalescer, determining if the characteristic of the electric current lies outside a predetermined stable range, and increasing the demulsifier dosage if the characteristic of the electric current lies outside the predetermined stable range. A system for controlling a demulsifier dosage to an AC/DC modulated coalescer with an adjustable dosing mixing valve is also described. The system includes a current sensor arranged to monitor an electric current drawn by an electrical component of the AC/DC modulated coalescer, and a processor configured to determine if a characteristic of the electric current lies outside a predetermined stable range. Furthermore, the system is configured to increase the demulsifier dosage if the characteristic of the electric current lies outside the predetermined stable range.

Demulsifier control system and method for AC/DC modulated dehydrating and desalting coalescers

A method may include producing a crude oil from a reservoir and contacting the crude oil with a demulsifying agent before the crude oil passes through a production choke valve to form a mixture of crude oil and demulsifying agent. The mixture of crude oil and demulsifying agent may be separated in one or more separators into a gas stream, an oil stream, and a water stream. The gas stream and oil stream may be combined to form an oil and gas mixture.

Demulsifier control algorithm for dual frequency desalting electrostatic coalescers

A computer-implemented method includes receiving, by a programmable logic controller coupled to a control unit associated with a vessel containing oil and water within a Gas-Oil-Separation Plant (GOSP), a first signal representing a first capacitance measurement detected by a first capacitance probe attached to the vessel at a first elevation. Determining whether an alarm condition is met by detecting whether the first capacitance measurement is higher than a first predetermined maximum limit, or a rate of change (ROC) of the first capacitance measurement is higher than a first predetermined ROC limit, or both. If the alarm condition is met, sending an alarm signal indicating that an upcoming process upset has been detected within the vessel. Subsequent alarms at higher elevations, if available, can alarm operators if the emulsion layer thickness continues to increase and further mitigation measures are required (such as higher demulsifier dosage, skimming of emulsion layer, etc.).

The present disclosure describes a method including: receiving input data from a gas and oil separation plant (GOSP), wherein: one or more demulsifiers is being injected into an emulsion to achieve a separation, a plurality of flow rates of water and the one or more demulsifiers are being measured inside the GOSP, the input data comprises the plurality of flow rates as well as temperatures corresponding to the plurality of flow rates, and determining, for each of the one or more demulsifiers, efficiencies of the separation based on the flow rates measured at corresponding temperatures; grouping respective efficiencies of separation according to a set of temperature ranges; and generating, for at least one temperature range, a histogram for the at least one temperature range; ranking the one or more demulsifiers according to the histogram; and providing a feedback to indicate a ranked order of the one or more demulsifiers.

Enhanced demulsifier performance ranking procedure and algorithm based on separation efficiency

A computer-implemented method can include implementing a feedback control scheme including controlling a separation efficiency for a high-pressure production trap (HPPT) by manipulating the demulsifier concentration. Controlling the separation efficiency can include determining, as a function of temperature and based on correlations of historical process data, minimum and maximum target separation efficiencies; identifying a target separation efficiency that is between the minimum and maximum target separation efficiencies; and adjusting a demulsifier dosage, used in calculating the separation efficiency, between a minimum demulsifier concentration and a maximum demulsifier concentration. The adjusting can include: when the separation efficiency is below the target separation efficiency, adjusting, using a PID controller, the demulsifier dosage upward but not to exceed a maximum dosage concentration; and when the separation efficiency is above the target separation efficiency, adjusting, using the PID controller, the demulsifier dosage downward above a minimum dosage concentration.
