The present invention refers to a process for preparing an animal brain extract. It also refers to the brain extract obtainable according to said process and to the use thereof as a medicine, in particular for the prevention and/or treatment of neurodegenerative diseases and disorders of the central nervous system. It also refers to compositions comprising this extract and to its use for preparing these compositions.

Process for preparing an animal brain extract

The present invention relates to a method for preparing a cartilage product comprising a protein hydrolysate with a degree of hydrolysis comprised between 0.5% and 3.0%, at least one glycosaminoglycan and at least one growth factor. The present invention also relates to the cartilage product obtainable through said method. Said cartilage product is useful in the treatment or prevention of wounds, ulcers, burns, psoriasis, osteoarthritis, synovitis, osteoporosis, osteopenia, diseases of the tendons and ligaments, periodontal diseases, signs of skin aging, the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation exposure or stretch marks.

Cartilage product

The present invention relates to the use of a series of sulphated disaccharides for the preparation of a medicament for the treatment or prevention of a neurodegenerative and/or neurovascular disease, of a traumatic brain injury or of a traumatic spinal cord injury. The present invention also relates to the use of said sulphated disaccharides for the preparation of a neuroprotective medicament or of an antioxidant medicament. The neurodegenerative and/or neurovascular diseases are preferably: Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and stroke.

Sulphated disaccharides for the treatment of neurodegenerative and/or neurovascular diseases

The present invention relates to compositions comprising chondroitin sulphate and mannosamine or a derivative thereof. The mannosamine derivative is preferably N-acetylmannosamine. The compositions may comprise glucosamine. Said compositions are useful in the treatment or prevention of degenerative joint diseases, preferably of osteoarthritis, in the treatment or prevention of tendon or ligament diseases, disorders or injuries and of immune system diseases, preferably of rheumatoid arthritis.

Composition for the treatment of osteoarthritis

Disaccharides for the treatment of tendons, ligaments and bones. The present invention relates to the use of a series of disaccharides, as well as of compositions containing them, for the preparation of a medicament for the treatment or prevention of a tendon, ligament or bone disease, disorder or injury. The present invention also relates to the new compositions comprising a disaccharide in combination with inulin polysulphate, a glycosaminoglycan, a growth factor or cells. The glycosaminoglycan is preferably chondroitin sulphate or hyaluronic acid and the growth factor is IFG-1.

Disaccharides for the treatment of tendons, ligaments, and bones

The present invention relates to the use of an organic glucosamine salt selected from glucosamine glucuronate, glucosamine ascorbate, glucosamine malate, glucosamine hydrogen malate, glucosamine citrate, glucosamine hydrogen citrate, and glucosamine dihydrogen citrate for the preparation of a medicament for the treatment of arthrosis and inflammation and pain associated with arthrosis. The present invention also relates to the use of an organic glucosamine salt, selected from the ones mentioned above, for the preparation of a nutritional supplement acting as a chondroprotector, to nourish the cartilage, protect the joints, prevent water deficit in the tissues that form the joint, improve the joints' functional capacity, elasticity, and flexibility, and prevent and revert the physical overexertion syndrome in athletes, and the effects associated therewith.

Use of organic glucosamine salts

The present invention relates to the use of a sulphated polysaccharide in acid form or as a physiologically acceptable salt thereof, selected from the group constituting of inulin sulphate, gellan sulphate, pullulan sulphate, curdlan sulphate, alginiq acid sulphate, laminarin sulphate, and pectin sulphate, for the preparation of a medicament for the treatment or prophylaxis of arthrosis in a mammal. Preferably, the sulphated polysaccharide is inulin sulphate, most preferably inulin polysulphate sodium salt. The present invention also relates to the use of a sulphated oligosaccharide derived from a polysaccharide selected from the group consisting of inulin, gellan, pullulan, curdlan, alginic acid, laminarin, and pectin, for the preparation of a medicament for the treatment or prophylaxis of arthrosis in a mammal.

Therapeutic use for a group of sulphated polysaccharides

This invention relates to a process for the preparation of glucosamine sulfate, glucosamine hydroiodide, glucosamine pyruvate, glucosamine phosphate or their mixtures with glucosamine hydrochloride, by electrodialysis. Starting from glucosamine hydrochloride, the exchange of the Clfor an anion selected from the group consisting of SO, I, CHCOCOOand POtakes place during the process. The electrodialyser comprises a cathode, anode, and means of separation composed of anion exchange membranes, cation exchange membranes, bipolar membranes or by other suitable means of separation. This invention also relates to a glycosamine sulphate containing chlorides obtainable by the process, and its therapeutic use.

Process for the preparation of glucosamine salts

The invention relates to novel disaccharides of formula (I), wherein R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, linear or branched (C -C ) alkyl, phenylalkyl with less than ten carbon atoms and &mdash;COCH ; R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, &mdash;COCH and SO M; R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, linear or branched (C -C ) alkyl, phenylalkyl with less than ten carbon atoms, &mdash;COCH and y &mdash;COPh, Ph being phenyl; G is selected from amongst &mdash;COOR and &mdash;COOM, R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, (C -C )-alkyl and arylalkyl with less than sixteen carbon atom; A is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, &mdash;SO H, &mdash;SO M and &mdash;COCH ; B is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, &mdash;SO H, &mdash;SO M and &mdash;COCH , wherein either A or B are necessarily either &mdash;SO H or &mdash;SO M, M being a an organic or metallic cation. Said compounds can be used as anti-arthritic agents, anti-inflammatory agents or to control blood coagulation.
