An anastomosis device includes a stapler and an anvil. The stapler includes a clamp head with opposing first and second clamp jaws and a clamp actuator and clamp lock. Staple magazines are connected to the clamp jaws for retaining a plurality of staples in an array, and drivers are provided for moving the plurality of staples in the array out of the staple magazine. An anvil includes a clamp head with opposing first and second clamp jaws, a clamp actuator and a clamp lock. Anvil portions are connected to the clamp jaws. The stapler detachably engages to the anvil, and aligns the staple magazines with the anvils. The drivers are operated to move the staples from the staple magazines into contact with the anvil portions. A method for performing anastomosis is also disclosed.

Linear anastomosis clamp and stapler

A centrifuge includes a container and at least one drive for rotating the container about its own axis and revolving the container about an axis of revolution and through a plane of revolution. At least one conduit extends from the container to a first or second side of the plane of revolution. The direction of rotation of the container is according to the left hand rule if the conduit extends to the first side of the plane of rotation, and according to the right hand rule if the conduit extends to the second side of the plane of rotation. The frequency of the container rotation is equal to the frequency of the container revolution. A centrifugal separator and a method for centrifuging a liquid are also disclosed. The invention provides for continuous centrifugation while prevent conduits into the container from getting tangled.

Centrifuge with continuous fluid flow for containers

A surgical knot setter includes an elongated shaft having a long axis and proximal and distal portions. A tip is provided at the distal end of the shaft. The tip has a loop with an interior loop opening and a gate opening for permitting ingress and egress of a suture into the loop opening. The loop is laterally offset from the long axis and distal to the distal end of the shaft, such that the loop is laterally and longitudinally offset from the distal end of the shaft. A closure is provided for selectively opening and closing the gate opening between open and closed positions to selectively permit or prevent the suture from passing through the gate opening. An actuator moves the closure between the open and closed positions. A method for tying suture knots is also disclosed.

Knot setter

An aortic cross clamp includes an elongated handle and a clamp head. The clamp head has opposing jaws having open and closed positions. At least one of the jaws is pivotally mounted to a jaw actuator so as to be pivotal relative to the opposing jaw and about an axis distanced from the opposing jaw. A locking mechanism is provided for locking the jaws in the closed position. A jaw drive mechanism is operable through the elongated handle for moving the jaws between the open and closed positions. A method of clamping the aorta is also disclosed.

Aortic cross clamp

A perifusion device includes at least one sample container for cells, the sample container having an inlet and an outlet. The container receives test liquid through the inlet and discharges the liquid through the outlet. A manifold having a plurality of liquid inlets, control valves, and liquid outlets can be provided. A receptacle housing has a plurality of receptacles. A drive is connected to the receptacle housing for moving the receptacle housing. A programmable controller can be provided to control movement of the receptacle housing. The test liquid includes at least one stimuli for the cells. The liquid collected in the receptacles is analyzed to determine the response of the cells to the stimuli.

Perifusion device

A perifusion device includes at least one sample container for cells, the sample container having an inlet and an outlet. The container receives test liquid through the inlet and discharges the liquid through the outlet. A receptacle housing has a plurality of receptacles for receiving fluid from the outlet of the sample container. A drive is connected to the receptacle housing for moving the receptacle housing such that liquid samples are collected sequentially from the outlet of the sample containers. A computer can be provided to control movement of the receptacle housing at predetermined times, and to record data identifying liquid samples in the receptacles. The test liquid includes at least one stimuli for the cells, which can be the presence, absence, or concentration of a compound in the liquid, or a physical property of the liquid such as temperature. The liquid collected in the receptacles is analyzed to determine the response of the cells to the stimuli.

A system for performing anastomosis includes a plurality of staples, an annular staple support having structure for holding the staples, and a staple closing device for closing the staples to secure the canal ends together. A method for performing anastomosis and staples for performing anastomosis are also disclosed.

Anastomosis system and method

A retractor includes a retractor support and an elongated retractor blade. The retractor blade has a first, closed position in which ends of the blade are positioned proximal to the support and a second, open position in which ends of the blade are positioned distal to the support. The retractor support has structure for engaging the retractor blade. A handle extends from the retractor support. A method of retracting tissue is also disclosed.

An organ transportation device includes a fluid-tight organ container and structure within the organ container for engaging an organ within the organ container. A base assembly is provided, and structure for rotating the organ engaging structure and the organ relative to the base assembly. The base assembly can have a motor and a battery to provide for rotation of the organ container during shipping.

Organ transportation device

An organ preservation container includes a gas impermeable housing for containing an organ. At least two liquids having different densities and forming a liquid-liquid interface are also contained in the housing. A closure for hermetically sealing the housing is provided. A structure is provided within the housing for engaging the organ and for maintaining a portion of the organ at the liquid-liquid interface such that the organ will be maintained partially in both of the liquids. A method for preserving the organ is also described.

Organ preservation container and method

A container for shipping items in an aircraft includes a shipping compartment and an expandable chamber for receiving gas from the shipping compartment. At least one conduit connects the expandable chamber to the shipping department so as to permit the flow of gas therebetween. A method for shipping items in an aircraft is also disclosed.
