A workload dependent load-sharing mechanism in a multi-battery system. The mechanism is an energy management system that operates in three modes—energy saving mode, balancer mode, and turbo mode. The energy saving mode is a normal mode where the multiple batteries provide power to their own set of loads with least resistive dissipation. In balancing mode, the batteries are connected through switches operating in active mode so that the current shared is inversely proportion to the corresponding battery state-of-charge. In turbo mode, both batteries are connected in parallel through switches (e.g., on-switches) to provide maximum power to a processor or load. A controller optimizes the sequence and charging rate for a hybrid battery to maximize both the charging current and charging speed of the battery, while enabling longer battery life. The hybrid battery comprises a fast charging battery and a high-energy density battery.

A disclosed example includes a plurality of display pixels; timing controller circuitry; driver circuitry on a same integrated circuit as the timing controller circuitry, the driver circuitry to drive the display pixels; and de-multiplexer circuitry to de-multiplex pixel data to send to the plurality of display pixels.

Display circuits

Cameras are located within the display area of a display. In-display cameras allow for thinner display bezels. In-display cameras allow for the creation of ultra-high resolution images. The ability to capture an object from multiple perspectives allows for holographic image recording and playback. Multiple views of an image can be captured with varying depths of focus, allowing an image's depth of field to be adjusted during post processing. In-display cameras can also be used for user authentication, touch detection and three-dimensional gesture recognition. Thermal sensors located within the display area allow for control of the display temperature, improved control over system performance, and compensation for micro-LED degradation that can occur due to aging or increased temperature. Microlens assemblies located above pixels can adjust the viewing cone angle of the display or a portion of the display and microassemblies located under individual pixels or pixel arrays can adjust a viewing angle.

Microphones are located between pixel display elements (e.g., micro-LEDs and OLEDs) in a display. Display-integrated microphones allow displays to have thinner bezels. Audio processing components can also be incorporated into the display and allow audio processing offloading from processors external to the display. Arrays of microphones allow for the beamforming of received audio signals to enhance the detection of sound from remote audio sources. Piezoelectric elements can also be integrated into a display to allow for localized haptic feedback. Integrated piezoelectric elements can act as speakers and beamforming techniques can be used to activate sets of piezoelectric elements in coordination to direct sound to a specific location external to the display. Piezoelectric elements can aid in display thermal management by creating acoustic waves to move heated air within a display to create a more uniform thermal profile within the display or to remove excess heat from the display.

Haptics and microphone display integration

A display controller for a display may include a frame rate circuit to change a frame rate of the display from a first frame rate to a second frame rate, and a reference voltage circuit to adjust a reference voltage of the display from a first reference voltage corresponding to the first frame rate to a second reference voltage corresponding to the second frame rate. The display may be a thin film transistor liquid crystal display. The reference voltage may correspond to a common voltage (Vcom) for the display.

In some examples, a display includes a plurality of display pixels, an integrated timing controller and driver circuit to drive the display pixels, and a de-multiplexer circuit including one or more transistors coupled to the integrated timing controller and driver circuit and coupled to one or more of the plurality of display pixels.

The system for image stream switching may include a processor, a display, and a storage. The system storage includes instructions that when executed on the processor, cause the processor to provide, to the display, a first image stream from a data comprising multiple simultaneous image streams comprising the first image stream and a second image stream, the first image stream comprising a first setting, the second image stream comprising a second setting distinct from the first setting. The example system includes a storage with instructions that when executed detect a signal to switch from the first setting to a third setting that is numerically between the first setting and the second setting. The example system includes a storage with instructions that when executed provide, to the display, a third stream generated from alternating frames from the first stream and the second stream.

Image stream switcher

Disclosed herein are display and photonic devices utilizing metasurfaces. An optical device comprising an optical component and an optical transmission medium is disclosed. A waveguide couples the optical component and the optical transmission medium. A metasurface is disposed on an end of the waveguide and arranged to increase an optical coupling between the waveguide and the optical transmission medium. Additionally, a display comprising a number of light emitting elements and a metasurface for each of the light emitting elements. The metasurface arranged to eliminate screen door effect in virtual reality display systems.

A display panel with reduced power consumption is described. An example of the display panel includes an array of light emitting elements that are controllable to form an image, and a Thin-Film-Transistor (TFT) backplane comprising circuitry to drive the array of light emitting elements. The TFT backplane includes a plurality of field effect transistors (FETs). Each FET includes a source electrode, a drain electrode, a channel layer contacting the source electrode and the drain electrode, and a gate electrode adjacent to the channel layer and separated from the channel layer by an insulator. The channel layer includes a layer of metal phosphide.

An example system for image stream switching. The system for image stream switching may include a processor, a display, and a storage. The storage may include instructions that when executed on the processor, cause the processor to provide, to the display, a first image stream from a multiple simultaneous image streams data, the first image stream including a first setting and a first frame. The storage may include instructions that when executed on the processor, cause the processor to detect a signal to switch an image stream setting. The storage may include instructions that when executed on the processor, cause the processor to provide, to the display, a second image stream from the multiple simultaneous image streams data in response to a detection of the signal, the second image stream including a second setting and a second frame.

Techniques related to a method, apparatus, and system for flexible displays are described herein. For example, an apparatus may include a flexible display and an electroactive layer. Shape changes in the electroactive layer generate shape changes in the flexible display. The shape changes include one or more coil turns configured to coil the flexible display.
