Controller and method for generating a dynamic light effect on a light source array

The present disclosure is directed to inventive methods and apparatus for lighting control and for providing effects upon activation/deactivation. For example, various methods and apparatus are described for controlling various selected properties of light emitted by an LED-based lighting unit () with multiple LEDs () using, for example, a dimmer switch () and/or a predefined sequence of energizing LEDs.

Methods and apparatus for controlling illumination of a multiple light source lighting unit

The invention provides a lighting system () comprising an array () of lighting elements () being controllable to create a configurable light effect having a configurable luminance distribution. A controller () is configured to effect migration of a light effect from a first position () to a second position () wherein an edge of the light effect is transformed for the duration of the migration so as to improve apparent smoothness of the movement.

A lighting module () arranged to be attached to a luminaire () is disclosed. A lighting device () arranged for rendering a light output is disclosed. The lighting device () comprises at least one light source () arranged for emitting light. The lighting device () further comprises a receiver () arranged for receiving at least one signal from at least one further device (), which at least one signal is representative of a current location of the lighting device (). The lighting device () further comprises a processorarranged for controlling the light output of the at least one light source (). The processor () is further arranged for determining the current location of the lighting device () based on the received at least one signal and for accessing a memory () storing associations between locations and light settings. The processor () is further arranged for comparing the current location to at least one stored location so as to determine whether a first similarity criterion is met, and for controlling, if the first similarity criterion is met, the light output of the lighting device () according to a light setting associated with the stored location. This allows a user to move the lighting device () between locations, and for each location the previously set light setting associated with that location may be applied to the lighting device (). The processor () is further arranged for associating the current location with a current light setting if the first similarity criterion is not met, and the processor () is further arranged for storing the association in the memory ().

Lighting device with context based light output

Lighting systems, devices, methods and apparatus for simulating a candle flame are disclosed. The systems and methods employ spatially distributed, disjointed sets of light-emitting elements that are independently controlled with randomized control signals to simulate a candle flame by forming spatially and temporally varying lighting effects. Further, the disjointed sets are controlled such that the total light intensity is essentially maintained. In addition, systems and methods employ a transition probability model to adjust intensities of light-emitting elements in a way that accurately mimics a candle flame.

Flame simulating light-emitting devices and related methods

A method () of controlling a luminaire () adapted to generate a light output () in a controllable direction with a user interface device () is disclosed. The method comprises determining () a relative orientation of the user interface device to the luminaire; receiving () a light output positioning instruction on a user interface () of the user interface device, said light output positioning instruction including directional information for the positioning of the light output in a specified location; converting () the light output positioning instruction by transforming the directional information based on the determined relative orientation; and transmitting () the converted light output positioning instruction to the luminaire. Systems, methods and computer-readable media are described herein for commissioning a group of two or more lighting units () as a group. In various embodiments, the group may be commissioned based at least in part on the two or more lighting units emitting light having corresponding properties. Additionally or alternatively, in various embodiments, the group may be commissioned based on the two or more lighting units being influenced by sensor events raised by two or more sensors () within a predetermined time interval. The two or more sensors may take a variety of forms, including but not limited to a presence sensor, an accelerometer, a sensor configured to detect a signal from a third party network service, and so forth.

Automatically commissioning a group of lighting units

A lighting system is disclosed for deploying dynamic lighting effects. The lighting system includes a plurality of lighting devices, each lighting device being adapted to deploy a portion of a dynamic lighting effect, a controller and a network communication module, each lighting device is communicatively coupled in a mesh network to at least one neighboring lighting device and adapted to communicate illumination state information to the at least one neighboring lighting device and a system controller adapted to broadcast a configurable dynamic lighting effect function to the plurality of lighting devices, said configurable dynamic lighting effect function defining the dynamic lighting effect to be deployed by the lighting system, wherein at least some of the plurality of lighting devices' respective controllers are adapted to configure the lighting device by configuring the configurable dynamic lighting effect function based on illumination state information received from at least one of the at least some of the plurality of lighting devices' neighboring lighting devices to facilitate deployment of its portion of the dynamic lighting effect, determining the at least some of the plurality of lighting devices' illumination state information from the configured configurable dynamic lighting effect function and communicating the determined illumination state information to at least one of the at least some of the plurality of lighting devices' neighboring lighting devices.

Luminaire for controlling a light output of a lighting module comprising at least one light source

Lighting units, lighting unit controls and lighting control methods are described herein. In various embodiments, a lighting unit () may include a first light source () that is adjustable to emit first light having a range of levels of a particular lighting property, such as brightness, saturation or hue. The lighting unit may further include a second light source () that automatically, and independently of the first light source, transitions between a plurality of states in which the second light source emits second light at a plurality of levels of the particular lighting property that collectively form a dynamic effect.

Lighting unit with multiple light sources to emit functional light or dynamic lighting effect

In various embodiments, one or more signals indicative of a shape formed by a flexible lighting strip () may be obtained, e.g., from one or more sensors () secured to the flexible lighting strip. Disclosed are methods and apparatus for lighting control. For example, a user may commission a touch-controlled luminaire () to emit light output having various lighting properties dependent on a manner in which the touch-controlled luminaire is touched subsequently. In particular, a user may use an electronic mobile device () such as a smart phone, tablet computer, or a wearable computing device (e.g., computing glasses, smart watches) to associate a touch event profile indicative of a manner in which a touch-controlled luminaire was touched (e.g., tapped, swiped, etc.) with a lighting control action.
