A method for automatically establishing a communication connection to a vehicle at a repair shop work station, including the tasks of connecting a plurality of mobile communication interfaces to one of a plurality of vehicles, establishing biunique assignments of the vehicles to the particular mobile communication interfaces connected to the vehicles, one of the tasks of automatically detecting identification data of one of the plurality of mobile communication interfaces and/or of the particular assigned vehicle, which are located at the repair shop work station, or automatically detecting position coordinates of the plurality of mobile communication interfaces; transmitting the identification data or position coordinates to a vehicle testing device at the repair shop work station, and automatically establishing a communication connection between the vehicle testing device and the mobile communication interface located at the repair shop work station based on the detected identification data or the detected position coordinates.

A method for identifying, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing a vehicle in a repair shop, including the steps of connecting a mobile communication interface (VCI) to the vehicle and connecting a first vehicle inspection device at least to the VCI at a first work station; detecting identification data for the vehicle using the first vehicle inspection device and storing the identification data for the vehicle in the VCI; carrying out the first set of inspections of the vehicle using the first vehicle inspection device and/or the VCI; disconnecting the first vehicle inspection device from the vehicle; connecting a second vehicle inspection device to the vehicle, reading out the identification data from the VCI into the second vehicle inspection device at a second work station, and carrying out a second set of inspections of the vehicle using the second vehicle inspection device and/or the VCI connected to the vehicle.

A method for identifying a motor vehicle for a plurality of motor vehicle inspection devices, including ascertaining a distinct characteristic of the motor vehicle; ascertaining basic identification data of the motor vehicle; storing the distinct characteristic and the basic identification data in an identification data set for this motor vehicle on a storage medium; identifying the identification data set associated with the motor vehicle on the storage medium based on the distinct characteristic with a first of the plurality of motor vehicle inspection devices; reading out the identified identification data set of the motor vehicle from the storage medium; ascertaining first identification data of the motor vehicle, which are specific to the first of the plurality of motor vehicle inspection devices; supplementing the read-out identification data set by the first identification data; storing the supplemented identification data set on the storage medium; identifying the identification data set associated with the motor vehicle on the storage medium based on the distinct characteristic with a second of the plurality of motor vehicle inspection devices; reading out the identified identification data set of the motor vehicle from the storage medium; ascertaining second identification data of the motor vehicle, which are specific for the second of the plurality of motor vehicle inspection devices; supplementing the read-out identification data set by the second identification data; and storing the supplemented identification data set on the storage medium.

Motor vehicle inspection device and method for identifying motor vehicles

A method for identifying and diagnosing a vehicle includes: storing customer, vehicle, and repair shop order data of the vehicle in a work data memory device of a mobile communication interface; connecting the mobile communication interface to the vehicle and connecting a first vehicle inspection device at least to the mobile communication interface at a first work station; carrying out a first set of inspections on the vehicle using the first vehicle inspection device and/or the mobile communication interface; carrying out a second set of inspections on the vehicle using a second vehicle inspection device and/or the mobile communication interface on the basis of the first inspection results; and storing the customer, vehicle, and repair shop order data as well as the first and second inspection results of the vehicle into the central customer database.

A motor vehicle test device and a motor vehicle test method are described. The motor vehicle test device includes a control unit for controlling a predefined test sequence; an operator interface device; and at least one measuring device for measuring at least one vehicle parameter. The motor vehicle test device has a vehicle communication interface and diagnosis software. The control device is developed in such a way that it is able to communicate with at least one control unit of the motor vehicle via the vehicle communication interface.

A method for diagnosing and maintaining a vehicle at a repair shop includes connecting a first vehicle inspection device to a first work station and selecting a mobile VCI which is provided a detection software component situated on a central repair shop server and a central diagnostic device; connecting the VCI to the vehicle; establishing a communication between the VCI and the diagnostic device; storing vehicle identification data in the VCI via the diagnostic device; performing a first set of vehicle inspections using the first vehicle inspection device and/or the VCI; disconnecting the first vehicle inspection device from the vehicle; connecting a second vehicle inspection device to the vehicle; reading out the identification data from the VCI into the second vehicle inspection device at a second work station via the diagnostic device; and performing a second set of vehicle inspections using the second vehicle inspection device and/or the VCI.
