The present technology provides a computer-implemented method and system for performing frequency selective scheduling between a user equipment (UE) and a base station. The UE selects a sub-band within a predetermined system bandwidth based on observed radio conditions. The UE then communicates the selected sub-band to the base station. The base station then selects a LTE resource block having a frequency range falling within the sub-band. The selected resource block is then used for communication between the base station and the UE. The process may be repeated at a frequency related to the channel coherence.

Method and system for radio resource allocation

The present technology provides a method, apparatus and system for facilitating uplink communication from a user equipment (UE) to a base station in an LTE communication system. One or more frequency subcarriers within a predetermined LTE resource block are selected, covering less than the entire frequency range of the LTE resource block. The selected one or more frequency subcarriers are then used for communication from the UE to the base station.

Method, apparatus and system for uplink radio resource allocation in an LTE communication system

The present technology provides for an LTE system comprising a UE which is configured to perform blind HARQ combining of PDCCH messages, and an eNB which is configured with a HARQ transmission mechanism for such PDCCH messages. The PDCCH messages may be uplink or downlink grant messages, for example. In some embodiments, up to 8 messages may be combined via HARQ. Such HARQ combining may facilitate realizing a practical coverage gain.

An antenna system comprises a receive diversity antenna system and a configurable antenna arrangement. Incoming signals are received through the receive diversity antenna system and outgoing signals are transmitted through the configurable antenna arrangement. In a wireless communication system, data is encoded by packet indifferent (PI) coding and some packets are transmitted omnidirectionally while supplemental packets are transmitted directionally to a user with a poor air link. PI encoding is defined herein as encoding in which the source data can be recovered from any K of the encoded packets, regardless of which of the encoded packets are received, where K=N+A. N is equal to the number of packets in the source data and A is the number of additional packets required due to the PI encoding. A subset of M data packets can be sent to one or many users from an omnidirectional antenna, where M is greater than or equal to K. If less than K data packets are received by at least one user, then the data block is not successfully received by that user. A number R of supplemental packets can be sent to users that did not receive K data packets successfully. The supplemental packets can be sent by a directional antenna to the specific user or users that did not receive K data packets.

Wireless communication coding and transmission systems and methods

The power control system includes a run-length counter and a processor. The counter is configured to receive and count power up commands indicating commands to increase power, and to generate a run-length count. The processor provides a transmit power level based on comparison of previous power levels and the run-length count with specified thresholds. The number of re-transmissions of messages is limited using maximum allowable retransmission (MAR) values. MAR messages are utilized to efficiently create a preferred assignment of MAR values over the range of possible data rates.
