An armature is presented. The armature includes an armature winding having a plurality of coils, wherein each coil of the plurality of coils is spaced apart from adjacent coils and comprise includes a first side portion and a second side portion. The armature further includes a first electrically insulating winding enclosure. Furthermore, the armature includes a second electrically insulating winding enclosure disposed at a radial distance from the first electrically insulating winding enclosure, wherein the armature winding is disposed between the first electrically insulating winding enclosure and the second electrically insulating winding enclosure. Moreover, the armature includes an electrically insulating coil side separator disposed between the first side portion and the second side portion of the plurality of coils of the armature winding. A superconducting generator including the armature and a wind turbine having such superconducting generator are also presented.

An assembly for cooling an electrical coil winding having a first coil, a second coil, a first end turn and a second end turn is provided. The assembly includes a supply header; a return header; and a plurality of flow members coupled in flow communication to the supply header and the return header. The flow members are configured to channel a flow agent from supply header to the return header. Each the flow member of the plurality of flow members includes a first portion coupled to the first coil; a second portion coupled to the second coil; a first end portion coupled to the first end turn and coupled in flow communication to the first portion and the second portion; and a second end portion coupled to the second end turn and coupled in flow communication to the second portion.

Cooling assembly for electrical machines and methods of assembling the same

A rotor structure for an interior permanent magnet (IPM) electromotive machine is provided. The rotor structure may include at least one rotor lamination, which in turn may include at least one slot arranged to receive at least one permanent magnet. The slot divides the rotor lamination into a pole region and a yoke region. At least one bridge is arranged to connect the pole region to the yoke region at an outer edge of the lamination. The outer edge of the lamination is profiled along a segment of the bridge to define a concave curved profile for the bridge. The concave curved profile for the bridge allows to selectively size a thickness of the bridge to affect at least some electromagnetic and/or mechanical characteristic of the machine.
