A composition comprises (i) an elastomer, (ii) from 1 to 5 volume % of fibrous pulp, the pulp having a specific surface area of from 7 to 11 sq.m./g and the fiber having a fiber length of from 0.5 to 1.1 mm, a tensile modulus of from 2.5 to 130 GPa, and a tensile strength of from 1 to 3 GPa, and (iii) from 5 to 14 volume % of yield-strain promoter in the form of fibers, needles, powder or platelets, wherein the composition has a yield strain of at least 70%, an elongation at break of at least 200%, and a yield stress of at least 4 MPa.

Fibrous pulp and use thereof in a composite

The properties of melt blends of specific aliphatic-aromatic copolyesters and starch are improved by addition of a combination of polylactic acid, graft copolymers such maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene and maleic anhydride grafted polystyrene, and a hindered phenolic antioxidant. The blends exhibit increased melt strength and maximum draw down ratio versus blends of only aliphatic-aromatic copolyesters and starch. Films made from the blend are compostable and exhibit an attractive combination of mechanical and rheological properties for packaging materials.

Toughened polyester blends

Blends comprising 65-95 wt % poly(trimethylene terephthalate-co-sebacate), 5 to 35 wt % polylactic acid and a chain extender are provided that exhibit greatly increased melt strength compared to that of poly(trimethylene terephthalate-co-sebacate) alone. Such improvements allow these compositions to be processed readily by melt-blowing, which is useful for packaging and for preparing items such as biodegradable garbage bags.

Copolyester blends with improved melt strength

Polyester compositions based on 1,3-propanediol and aromatic and aliphatic diacids that can contain a large fraction of biologically derived content are disclosed. Transesterification between polyesters in blends of such compositions is greatly reduced using phosphorous-containing additives. The blends have properties similar to poly(ethylene terephthalate).

Sulfonated aliphatic-aromatic polyester compositions having improved thermal properties and biodegradability, and articles such as films, coatings and laminates, produced from the sulfonated aliphatic-aromatic polyester compositions, are provided.

Aliphatic-aromatic polyesters, and articles made therefrom

Disclosed herein is a barrier coating that shows decreased moisture sensitivity compared to conventional coatings, and provides high barrier properties, as well as a rapid method for producing the coating. These improvements are generated through use of a boric acid chelating agent in the composition and curing the composition with UV/NIR radiation.
