In one example embodiment, the method includes receiving an X.25 packet at a LAN interface of a network device. Further, the method includes determining whether a local CUG value is associated with the X.25 packet. The local CUG value may be replaced with a network CUG value associated with the X.25 packet. Thereafter, the X.25 packet, and the associated network CUG value, may be formatted to generate an IP packet. The formatting may include the use of at least one formatting regime including encapsulating the X.25 packet, that includes the associated network CUG value, in an XOT, or using protocol translation to translate the X.25 packet that includes the network CUG value into an equivalent IP packet. The method includes transmitting the IP packet using a WAN interface card, the WAN interface card including a primary interface, and at least one backup interface.

Methods and systems have been provided for communicating digital voice data. According to various embodiments of the invention, a user interface is provided at a network device in the presence of DSP resources. Selection is made by the user interface about whether to use the DSP resources. Based on the selection, the digital voice data is communicated. Selection of bypassing a DSP resource is made by default if no DSP resources are present.

The development port or Debug port of a microprocessor on an intelligent daughterboard is used for downloading code or configuration information from a motherboard for use in boot-up. The method comprises two steps. Step 1 includes constructing a production planning decision space comprising independent sets of hyperplanes defined by decision variables (q.sub.j) corresponding to product quantities for products (j). The constructing step subsumes steps of expressing a potential usage of part (p) as a linear combination of production quantities (q.sub.j) based on bill of material usage rules; limiting the production quantities (q.sub.j) so that each is less than or equal to the maximum demand quantity (d.sub.j); and limiting the production quantities (q.sub.i) so that the usage of each resource (r) is based on bill of material and bill of capacity usage rates less than or equal to the availability of that resource. For each part p, the second step includes locating a region in the decision space corresponding to a high level of usage of part (p).

Methods are described for predicting parts procurement requirements for products over a plurality of time periods, with certain of the parts being common to a plurality of products. The actual demand for the products is unknown, but the method assures that a specified service level is met for all products and minimizes expected excess part inventories. The methods are provided with inputs which, among others, includes lists of parts for each product, prices for the parts, and demand forecasts for each product in each time period, each forecast in the form of a mean and standard deviation. The description of the problem includes an objective function of minimizing expected excess inventory while satisfying the constraint that a specified service level be achieved. The problem is transformed into an unconstrained problem through the use of a Lagrange multiplier. The solution is achieved by performing a one parametric search on the value of the multiplier. The solution may achieve higher service levels than specified. Additional methods are described for improving the procurement decisions to more closely meet the service requirement.
