A technique facilitates installation of cables in a variety of environments, including downhole environments. A cable is provided with a core surrounded by a protective jacket. In the radial space between the core and the protective jacket, a filler mechanism is deployed in the axial direction along the cable. The filler mechanism is designed to provide easy access to the core to facilitate coupling with various related components while limiting risk involved with exposing the core.

Cable construction

A hybrid junction assembly is provided. The hybrid junction assembly may comprise a junction body configured to sealingly couple to a first control line and a second control line. In addition, the assembly may include a transfer conduit configured to fit within a hybrid control line such that an annulus is formed between the transfer conduit and the hybrid control line. The first control line and the transfer conduit may form a first communication pathway and the second control line and the annulus may form a second communication pathway. The transfer conduit and the hybrid control line may be sealingly coupled to the junction body.

A cable is provided including an inner member, an outer member and an intermediate member. The intermediate member may be positioned between the inner member and the outer member and include a number of disconnection sections spaced apart from one another. In some cases, the cable may include two or more inner members. In addition, a method for preparing an end of a cable may be provided, including the steps of removing a portion of an outer member of the cable and applying a tensile force to an intermediate member of the cable comprising a plurality of disconnection sections. The intermediate member of the cable may be sheared at one of the plurality of disconnection sections, thereby exposing a portion of an inner member of the cable.

Fiber optic sensors commonly require a 180 degree turnaround to form a continuous optical circuit. Methods and apparatus for providing 180 degree turnarounds in a fiber optic system that include a shorter radius turnaround then provided by micro-bending the optic fiber are desired. An embodiment of a turnaround apparatus includes a first optic fiber pigtail, a second optic fiber pigtail, and an optical waveguide forming a U-shaped path having an input end optically connected to a first end of the first pigtail and an output end optically connected to a first end of the second pigtail.

Optical turnaround

A technique enables the reduction or prevention of galvanic action by electrically insulating components of a system. Fiber optic systems can be protected with the technique by preventing the formation of hydrogen ions through galvanic action that otherwise contribute to hydrogen darkening of optical fibers.
