Preparation and use of organopolysiloxanes having carbinol groups that are bonded to the silicon atom through carbamate-containing groups. These hydrophilic polysiloxanes can be made to completely dissolve in water or behave as amphoteric surfactants by controlling the concentration of the carbinol radicals and the molecular weight of the polysiloxane.

Hydrophilic polysiloxane compositions containing carbinol groups

Polyol compositions containing methane linkages derived from amino acids. The polyols are obtained from the reaction of the carbonate with the cadres in the amino acids. Individual amino acids or mixtures of amino acids that are prepared from the hydrolysis of the proteins can be used.

Polyols from biomass and polymeric products produced therefrom

A composition of matter comprising an interpenetrating polymer network of a combination of a silanol-containing polysiloxane phase and a silylated triglyceride oil phase. The two phases are mixed and covalently bound to each other via siloxane crosslinks. A method for producing interpenetrating polymer networks. The method comprises providing triglycerides from oils or fats and reacting the triglycerides with a reactive silane to form a silylated triglyceride oil. The silylated triglyceride oil and a silanol terminated polysiloxane are emulsified with water in a predetermined ratio. Thereafter, crosslinking agents are added and the water is removed from the emulsions providing siloxane crosslinks between the two intimately mixed immiscible phases.

Interpenetrating polymer networks derived from silylated triglyceride oils and polysiloxanes

Fuel oxygenates comprised of fatty acid or fatty acid ester derivatives which have been reacted with ozone; a base; and a lower alkanol (1 to 8 carbon atoms) are described. The oxygenates comprise ester groups at a point of cleavage by the ozone which provide oxygen in the oxygenate.

Bio-based oxygenated esters and diesters and method of preparation thereof

A process for the preparation of new polyols and polyesters from a natural oil or other unsaturated fatty acid esters is described. The process involves ozone cleavage of double bonds in the fatty acid chains of the oils along with coupling of a hydroxylated compound such as a mono-alcohol, a diol, or a polyol to the cleaved ends of the molecules resulting from the cleavage with a base. The resulting polyols and polyesters are as intermediates for polymers.

Modified fatty acid esters and method of preparation thereof

A moisture-curable, silane-modified oil is disclosed. The silane-modified oil includes an unsaturated oil having at least one unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon chain per molecule of the unsaturated oil, and at least one hydrolysable silyl group grafted to the unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon chain. The silane-modified oil has a degree of unsaturation that is substantially similar that of the unsaturated oil. A process for forming the moisture-curable, silane-modified oil according to the disclosure includes reacting the unsaturated oil with an unsaturated hydrolysable silane in the presence of a free radical initiator. Also disclosed is a cured silane-modified oil which includes the reaction product of the silane-modified oil and water. Compositions according to the disclosure have relatively low viscosities (facilitating their application to a substrate) and have relatively high levels of silane grafting (resulting in non-leaching cured compositions with a high gel content).

Moisture curable oil and fat compositions and processes for preparing the same

A biodegradable thermoplastic polymer masterbatch composition comprising a blend of at least one biodegradable thermoplastic polymer containing high loading of a particulate filler uniformly dispersed therein. The amount of the biodegradable thermoplastic polymer is generally from about 25% to about 50% by weight and the amount of the filler is from about 75% to about 50% by weight, based upon the total amount of one biodegradable polymer and the at least one filler. The uniform dispersion of the fillers is desirably obtained by adding small particles of the filler to a melt of the biodegradable polymer and blending using high shear equipment with special screw geometry. The masterbatch composition is then physically blended with additional biodegradable thermoplastic polymer and extrusion processed into final articles such as blown and cast films, molded products, and the like. The masterbatch multi-stage approach of the present invention results in a product that has improved physical properties and lower costs over that of a one step blend of the same amount of a biodegradable thermoplastic polymer and a filler that is subsequently heat formed into a final product.

A starch-polyester graft copolymer and chemically modified starch-polyester graft copolymer composition comprising a chemically modified starch or chemically modified starch-nanoclay product is described. The composition can be produced continuously in a twin-screw co-rotating extruder. The starch-polyester graft copolymer can be solvent cast, melt cast and blown into clear transparent film particularly for use in single use disposable applications and can be biodegradable.

A foamed starch-polyester graft copolymer and chemically modified starch-polyester graft copolymer composition comprising a chemically modified starch or chemically modified starch-nanoclay product is described. The composition can be produced continuously in a twin-screw co-rotating extruder in the presence of a blowing agent. The foams are biodegradable.

A method for lubrication by supplying a liquid lubricant to moving metal parts, more than fifty percent by weight of the liquid lubricant being a triglyceride vegetable oil having a saturated fatty acid content of less than nine percent by weight of the triglyceride vegetable oil and a polyunsaturated fatty acid content of more than seventy percent by weight of the triglyceride vegetable oil, the triglyceride vegetable oil having an American Petroleum Institute Thermo-Oxidation Engine Oil Simulation Test rod residue weight of less than thirty five milligrams and a pour point of less than minus twenty degrees Celsius.

A new starch-vegetable oil graft copolymer, wherein the vegetable oil has been reacted onto the starch backbone using thermal or free radical initiators has been produced in a twin-screw co-rotating extruder. The starch-vegetable oil graft copolymer can further be reinforced with biofiber in the presence of an optional modifier such as maleic anhydride by reactive extrusion processing to form composites suitable to be injection molded into biodegradable articles.

Chemically modified dicarboxy polysaccharides are described. The modified polysaccharides are useful as a carrier for cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, veterinary products and the like. The modified polysaccharides can provide a timed release of active ingredients.
