A composition is described, comprising: (a) from 20 to 80 wt % of a polyester; (b) from 5 to 35 wt % of a flame retardant phosphinate of the formula (I)[(R)(R)(PO)&#x2014;O]M&#x2003;&#x2003;(I),a flame retardant diphosphinate of the formula (II)[(O&#x2014;POR)(R)(POR&#x2014;O)]M&#x2003;&#x2003;(II),and/or a flame retardant polymer derived from the flame retardant phosphinate of the formula (I) or the flame retardant diphosphinate of the formula (II), wherein Rand Rare identical or different and are H, C-C-alkyl, linear or branched, or C-C-aryl; Ris C-C-alkylene, linear or branched, C-C-arylene, -alkylarylene or -arylalkylene; M is an alkaline earth metal, alkali metal, Al, Ti, Zn, Fe, or boron; m is 1, 2, 3 or 4; n is 1, 2, or 3; and x is 1 or 2; (c) from 1 to 25 wt % of a melamine polyphosphate, melamine cyanurate, melamine pyrophosphate, and/or melamine phosphate; (d) from more than 0 to 25 wt % of a polyetherimide; and (e) optionally, an additive.

Polyester compositions, method of manufacture, and uses thereof

A composition is disclosed, comprising, based on the total weight of the composition, a combination of from 44 to 80 weight percent of a thermoplastic poly(butylene terephthalate); from 20 to 50 weight percent of a thermoplastic poly(ethylene terephthalate) having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.5 to 0.8 deciliters per gram, measured in a 60:40 by weight phenol/1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane mixture at 23&#xb0; C. using a relative viscometer operating with a closed loop system, which measures the solvent and sample viscosity simultaneously; from 5 to less than 20 weight percent of a talc filler having an average largest dimension of less than 0.9 micrometers, a median particle size of less than 0.9 micrometers, or both; and from 0.1 to 0.5 weight percent of a mold release agent. The compositions are useful in the manufacture of lighting articles, which can be directly metallized without the inclusion of a base coat.

Polyester compositions, methods of manufacture, and uses thereof

A composition comprising a combination of a thermoplastic polyester; and 0.2 to 0.7 parts by weight of an alkali metal salt, an alkaline earth metal salt, and/or a Cester of an aliphatic Ccarboxylic acid, based on 100 parts by weight of the polyester. The compositions are useful for molding parts, such as automotive headlamp reflectors.

A composition comprises 20 to 80 wt. % of a polyester component comprising a modified polybutylene terephthalate random copolymer derived from a polyethylene terephthalate component selected from polyethylene terephthalate and polyethylene terephthalate copolymers and having at least one residue derived from the polyethylene terephthalate component; from 5 to 35 wt. % of a flame retardant phosphinate (I) or (II)(R)(R)(PO)&#x2014;O]M&#x2003;&#x2003;(I)[(O&#x2014;POR)(R)(POR&#x2014;O)]M&#x2003;&#x2003;(II),and/or a flame retardant polymer thereof, wherein Rand Rare independently are H, C1-C6-alkyl, or C6-C10-aryl; Ris C1-C10, alkylene, C6-C10-arylene, -alkylarylene or -arylalkylene; M is an alkaline earth metal, alkali metal, Al, Ti, Zn, Fe, or boron; m is 1, 2, 3 or 4; n is 1, 2, or 3; and x is 1 or 2; 1 to 25 wt. % of a melamine polyphosphate, melamine cyanurate, melamine pyrophosphate, and/or melamine phosphate; and more than 0 to 25 wt. % of a polyetherimide.
