Various communication systems may benefit from appropriate handling of secure data. More specifically, certain packet-based communication systems may benefit from a mechanism to support coordinated packet delivery of one or more encrypted sessions. A method can include identifying metadata for an application flow, wherein the application flow is encrypted. The method can also include publishing the metadata in a core network, wherein the metadata is unencrypted when published.

Determination of the position of devices may be useful in various communication systems. For example, wireless communication systems that support emergency services may benefit from being able to make a vertical position determination of user equipment and/or network elements within a building or in other indoor environments, such as caves. A method can be implemented by a processor of a base station. The method can include receiving from at least one user equipment, at least one report based on at least a signal strength of a wireless connection between the at least one user equipment and the base station. The method can also include determining a vertical position of the base station, from the at least one report.

For example, third and fourth generation wireless networks may benefit from a mechanism and apparatus to perform cooperative resource management, for example, for video downloads. Various methods are possible. For example, a method can include regulating fill and drain phases for a downloading session, to meet just in time delivery. The regulating can be performed by a user equipment based on parameters provided by a network. Another method can include providing parameters to a user equipment and instructing the user equipment with respect to regulating fill and drain phases for a downloading session, to meet just in time delivery, based on the parameters. A further method can include performing a mutual handshake between an application and a radio network regarding just in time delivery of a download.

Mechanism and apparatus to perform cooperative resource management in wireless networks

Various communication systems may benefit from network assisted automatic clustering. For example, wireless communication systems may benefit from such clustering that enables victim to victim communication after the network becomes unavailable, for example due to a disaster. A method can include forming, by an element of a network, a cluster group for a plurality of user equipment in a location. The method can also include communicating, by the element, information comprising a cluster group identifier to a user equipment of the plurality of the user equipment. The cluster group can be configured to operate only when the network fails to operate.

A method may include sending a registration request to a first network element from at least two UE and receiving a registration response from the first network element to the at least two UE. The method may include sending an application registration to a second network element from the at least two UE and receiving an application list notification from the second network element to the at least two UE. The method may include exchanging an application-level message between the at least two UE. The method may include sending a request to anchor the at least two UE traffic to a third network element and receiving a unique identifier generated from the first network element to the at least two UE. The method may include exchanging application signaling and data between the at least two UE.

Systems, methods, apparatuses, and computer program products for automatically switching to D2D communication in a disaster situation is provided. One method includes receiving, by a user equipment, a list of base station sites comprising locations and geographical signal coverage of the base station sites and a list of Wi-Fi access points comprising locations and geographical signal coverage of the Wi-Fi access points. The method may also include creating at least one local database storing information received in the list of base station sites and the list of Wi-Fi access points.
