A single power distribution board having pin coded connectors may be used for both AC and DC power distribution to appropriate AC and/or DC power supplies in an information handling system. A common conductive layer may be used for either AC neutral or DC power supply return so as to eliminate one conductive layer in the power distribution board. Alternatively, total isolation of AC and DC power source inputs allow both AC and DC power supplies to operate together in a robust, redundant fashion. The DC power supplies in combination with a battery system may be used as an inexpensive uninterruptable power supply for the information handling system. Various DC and/or AC source voltages and frequencies may be coupled to appropriate power supplies through the pin coded connectors.

Power distribution board having connectors with AC and DC power distribution capabilities

A motherboard is secured in a chassis by a spring loaded plunger. An anchor member is mounted in the chassis. The anchor member includes a ramp and a receiver. The motherboard has an opening formed therein. A first member is secured to the motherboard. A second member is resiliently mounted on the first member so that the second member extends through the opening. The motherboard is moved on the chassis so that the second member is moved in a first direction by engaging the ramp, and the resilient mounting of the second member urges the second member in a second direction into the receiver.

Spring loaded plunger for circuit board installation and removal

A computer chassis includes a first metal portion and a second metal portion. A mating edge connection is provided between the first and second portions. A gasket is mounted in the edge connection. The gasket includes a compressible strip of electromagnetic interference (EMI) limiting material. A pattern of holes is formed in the strip to improve compressibility and thus enhance EMI shielding.

A heat sink retention system and method secures a heat sink proximate to a packaged electronic component, such as central processing unit, by rotationally engaging the heat sink with a retaining structure secured to an information handling system planar, such as a motherboard. The retaining structure has an opening aligned with the packaged electronic component and securing lips that extend into the opening. The heat sink inserts into the opening and is rotated slightly to engage flanges extending from its base into the securing lips. The position of the securing lips relative to the planar and the thickness of the flanges results in the base of the secured heat sink having a predetermined clearance from the packaged electronic component. A locking detent biases the heat sink to contact the packaged electronic component and allows limited movement out to the predetermined clearance, thus allowing the absorption of shock without excessive heat sink movement.

System and method for information handling system heat sink retention

An information handling system status indicator assembly includes a power jack, cabling and an indicator. The status indicator assembly connects with a status port located at the rear of an information handling system component and operates to provide a visible status indication of the component on the components cable management assembly and visible from a position behind the rack.

A computer chassis includes heat generating components and a fan housing adjacent the components. A plate is mounted in the fan housing. A first flexible member extends from the plate. A second flexible member extends from the plate and is spaced apart from the first member. A grip member interconnects a distal end of the first and second members spaced apart from the plate. A latch extends from adjacent the grip member. An anti-buckle member extends between the first and second members for maintaining the flexible members spaced apart.

A computer includes a chassis and a motherboard mounted in the chassis. A baseplate is mounted adjacent the motherboard. A plurality of dividers are mounted on the baseplate and extend therefrom. The dividers are substantially equally spaced apart in a substantially parallel relationship. The baseplate includes a first substantially planar section and a second substantially planar section. The first and second planar sections extend along respective first and second planes. The first plane is spaced apart from the second plane. A ventilated ramp extends between the first and second planar sections. The ramp directs an airflow path from a first side of the first planar section to a second side of the second planar section.

A computer system including a chassis having a microprocessor mounted thereon. A system memory is coupled to provide storage to facilitate execution of computer programs by the microprocessor. A shielding body is mounted on the chassis. A pair of spaced apart contact members are attached to the shielding body. A main spring member is attached to at least one of the contact members. System for managing cables for a rack-mounted computer system

An apparatus including a main chassis and a system component chassis removably mounted in the main chassis through an opening in a top portion thereof. A positioning member is attached to the system component chassis. A handle is pivotally attached adjacent to an end wall of the main chassis for being moved between a first position and a second position. The handle includes a portion engaged by the positioning member to position the system component chassis in a docking position with respect to the main chassis when the system component chassis is mounted in the main chassis with the handle in the first position. An insertion member is attached to the handle for engaging a portion of the power supply chassis for movement thereof from the docking position to a docked position when the handle is moved from the first position to the second position. System components such as a power supply may be quickly and reliably mounted in and removed from a low profile chassis of a computer using a vertical drop-in, horizontal movement mounting technique.

Apparatus for removably mounting a system component in a computer

An apparatus includes a chassis having an access panel mounted on the chassis for being moved between an open position and a closed position. A plurality of mounting flanges extend from an interior surface of the access panel. An elongated latch has a first end and a second end. The first end and the second end of the latch are slidably mounted between the interior surface of the access panel and a corresponding one of the mounting flanges. The latch is movable between a latched position and an unlatched position with respect to a flange portion of the chassis in a direction generally parallel to a longitudinal axis of the latch. A plurality of contoured resilient members are mounted between the latch and the access panel for biasing the latch to the latched position. A contoured portion of one of the resilient members is inverted from a contoured portion an adjacent one of the resilient members. The apparatus has a low profile with respect to system components mounted in the chassis and with respect to a rack that the chassis is mounted in. The configuration of the resilient members provides a center-balanced force with respect to a longitudinal axis of the latch, contributing to a smooth latch operation. Furthermore, the resilient members are capable of developing a relatively high force while occupying only a relatively small space.

In one embodiment, the expansion card retention system includes an expansion card retaining unit which has a vertical axis, an extended member, and a vertical-axis extended member pressure application device operably connected to the extended member. In another embodiment, a data processing system includes the expansion card retention system. In yet another embodiment, the method includes securing an expansion card via the application of a wedging force.
