A system and method involve channelizing a received signal into two or more narrowband channels, each narrowband channel having an overlapping frequency portion, creating matched narrowband channels by matching the unknown amplitude, phase, and delay of at least two of the narrowband channels, coherently summing the matched narrowband channels into a wideband channel, and equalizing the wideband channel using an equalizing filter to generate a coherent wideband channel.

A method for processing a digital signal, comprising the following steps: receiving a complex-valued input data array with a processor; converting the complex-valued input data array into a quantized polar domain by approximating magnitude and quantizing the phase data of the input data array with the processor; storing the approximated magnitude in a phase-column indexed matrix in a memory store that is operatively coupled to the processor; processing the input data array with the processor such that all multiplications and summations that would occur during signal processing of the input data array in the Cartesian domain are substituted with circular row shifts and additions of phase-column indexed values in the quantized polar domain; and converting the processed input data array back into the Cartesian domain.

No-multiply digital signal processing method

The present invention is directed to sub-filtering FIR (frequency impulse response) to provide the capabilities of an ambiguity function (i.e., search for a signal in time and frequency) without extensive computations. By minimizing the resources used for the signal search (increased efficiency), the size of the implementation of the ambiguity function in hardware, and thus its power consumption, can be reduced. Additionally, by making the frequency search more efficient, larger scale frequency searches are possible.

Sub-filtering finite impulse response (FIR) filter for frequency search capability

The present invention is directed toward a Finite Impulse Response (FIR) no-multiply filter (NMF), which replaces complex multiplications with phase additions. At each tap in the FIR filter, only phases are accumulated and at the output the complex result is reconstructed in I/Q. Noise dither is relied upon to smooth the digitized phase resolution. The NMF is ideally suited to a matched filtering scenario for constant modulus signals.
