Wastewater disinfection apparatus and methods

A shallow draft boat has a hull that protects a propulsion propeller within a tunnel that passes only partially through the hull from stem to bow. The hull causes mixing of water and air at high pressure during motion of the boat through the water, creating lift and a pressure gradient that keeps the tunnel filled. The boat prevents propulsion unit malfunction by keeping obstacles, such as debris, crab pots and mammals such as manatees from contact with the propeller.

Shallow draft boat with a tri-tunnel hull

A shallow draft boat has a hull that protects a propulsion propeller within a tunnel that passes only partially through the hull from stern to bow. The hull has a mechanism, such as a flap for selectively permitting or blocking water flow access to the tunnel from under the boat. The boat also has a lift mechanism preferably in the shape or adjustable parallelogram for selectively positioning a propeller of a propulsion unit substantially directly behind the tunnel or below the tunnel. The boat can operate in two modes. In one, water access to the tunnel is permitted and the propeller is positioned above the bottom of the hull and behind the tunnel. In the other, water access to the tunnel is blocked and the propeller is positioned below the bottom of the hull. This construction permits selective operation in a shallow draft mode, in a normal draft mode or in between. In the shallow draft mode, the boat prevents propulsion unit malfunction by keeping obstacles, such as debris, crab pots and mammals such as manatees from contact with the propeller.

Powerboat with disappearing tunnel

Apparatus for applying a flexible strap to an article, such as a roll of paper product, in a predetermined position with respect to a surface on the article, such as an end face of a roll, and in proper alignment with the end face to prevent loosening of the strap at a later time. A generally plate-like guide member has a strap guide surface thereon and a strapping head for feeding the strap around the guide surface for engagement with the article to be strapped. The guide member is mounted on linear bearings for translation with respect to a support frame. A spherical bearing is interposed between the linear bearing and the guide member to allow the guide member to be skewed with respect to the linear bearings to align itself with the end face or other surface on the article to be strapped. A series of pressure fluid piston and cylinder actuator positioning devices are mounted on the guide member and are engageable with the end face or other surface of the article to be strapped for proper positioning of the guide member and the strap for application to the article. The guide member is moved in opposite directions by two stage pressure fluid cylinder and piston actuators which may be actuated to center the guide member on the machine between two conveyors for the article, an upstream position and a downstream position for application of a strap to one or more ends of the article.

Roll strapping apparatus

A soccer ball is suspended by a line from a horizontal arm cantilevered from an upright standard supported by a portable base. The height of the soccer ball can be adjusted by paying out or hauling in the appropriate length of line, and the line can be anchored to a cleat carried by the standard. The height of the ball is adjusted for a soccer player for instruction and practice of heading the ball. The standard is of knockdown construction for ease in transportation to a training site.
