In one aspect, cellulosic floor coverings having desirable flammability resistance are provided. Briefly, a floor covering described herein comprises cellulosic fibers or cellulose-based fibers and fluoropolymer adhered to surfaces of the cellulosic fibers or cellulose-based fibers in an amount sufficient for the floor covering to conform with or pass flammability testing with a methenamine-timed burning tablet according to Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Standard FF 2-70.

Cellulosic floorcoverings and applications thereof

In one aspect, a composition for treating fibers comprises an acidic aqueous or aqueous-based continuous phase and a liquid repellent phase comprising a dendrimer component and/or non-dendrimer alkyl urethane. The treatment composition, for example, can have pH of 2.5 to 6.5. In some embodiments, carboxylic acid is employed in the treatment composition for providing the acidic character of the aqueous or aqueous-based continuous phase. Moreover, the treatment composition can further comprise at least one of an acid stain resist component and soil release component. In some embodiments, fibers treated with compositions described herein exhibit ionic character.

In one aspect, compositions are described herein which, in some embodiments, can improve or enhance the oil and soiling resistance of textile fibers, including fibers used in carpet and floor coverings. The present invention provides compositions for treating textiles, including carpet and other floor coverings. Compositions for treating textiles and carpet and applications thereof

Permanently stain resistant nylon and cellulosic fibers, and a method to impart permanent stain resistance to polyamide or cellulosic fibers, by covalently binding a stain resistant composition to a linking compound that has been covalently attached to the fiber are disclosed. This invention represents a significant advance in the art of textile treatments in that the covalently linked stain resist treatment is not removed after a series of alkaline shampooings. This invention is particularly useful in the preparation of commercial grade carpets for heavy traffic areas that will not lose their stain resistance after frequent shampooing.

Novel polyacrylic acid resins are prepared by polymerizing H.sub.2 C.dbd.CHCO.sub.2 H, H.sub.2 C.dbd.CRCO.sub.2 X, or HRC.dbd.CHCO.sub.2 X, wherein R is an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon, halogenated hydrocarbon, or sulfonated hydrocarbon of from C.sub.1 to C.sub.20, phenol, naphthol, sulfonated phenol, sulfonated naphthol, or a halogen, and X is hydrogen, alkyl, or a hydroxylated, ethoxylated, sulfonated, or halogenated aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon of from C.sub.1 to C.sub.20, sodium, potassium, ammonium, or quaternary amine, in the presence of aromatic sulfonic acid or its salt to form a polymer in which the sulfonated aromatic compound is covalently bound to the polymer. In an alternative embodiment, a textile processing or cleansing compound is included in the polymerization reaction along with the acrylic acid and aromatic sulfonic acid or its salt. The resulting polymers have superior properties for use in textile processing and cleaning, and can be used as detergents, acid dye levelers, surfactants, emulsifiers, yarn lubricants, copolymerizing agents, polymer after treat agents, defoamers, chelating agents, flocculants, anti-static agents, flame retardants, metal cleaners, metal coatings, and as multipurpose acids.
