A pressure control device, preferably for use in a control system of an automatic transmission of a motor vehicle, is shown as having a solenoid motor assembly the armature of which, through a cooperating servo orifice, is effective for varying the magnitude of pressure of a fluid medium acting upon a spool slave-like valving member which ultimately provides a fluid medium to associated fluid medium receiving structure; a spring normally urges the armature toward the servo orifice and an adjustable spring seat is operatively engaged with the spring; the adjustable spring seat is formed of at least two pieces.

Solenoid operated pressure regulating valve

A pressure control device, preferably for use in a control system of an automatic transmission of a motor vehicle, is shown as having a solenoid motor assembly the armature of which, through a cooperating servo orifice, is effective for varying the magnitude of pressure of a fluid medium acting upon a spool slave-like valving member which ultimately provides a fluid medium to associated fluid medium receiving structure; a fluid medium flow restriction formed as of sintered metal enables the fluid medium to flow in and through the control device to thereby bring about purging of air and other gases from within said control device.

A magnetically operated pressure control valve includes an electromagnetic coil having a central passage extending axially through the coil. A moveable armature is axially disposed in the coil passage to be magnetically attracted to a pole piece when the coil is energized. An armature spring biases the armature in a first position when the coil is not energized. A valve body is stationarily located in the valve housing and has two conduits therein. Movement of the armature controls fluid flow in the two conduits to control fluid flow between a supply port and a control port, and the control port and an exhaust port. Wave washer springs are located at opposite ends of the armature between the armature and the valve housing to resiliently absorb kinetic energy from movement of the armature, to reduce impact stress between the armature and housing, and to prevent a vacuum lock between the armature and housing due to their flat surfaces and the fluid in the valve.

Electromagnetically operated fluid control valve

A pressure regulating device regulates the pressure of a flowing medium and includes a stationary member. A movable armature is disposed axially from the stationary member for moving axially in relation to the stationary member. A coil is disposed about the stationary member and the armature and through which curernt flows for generating magnetic flux to create an attractive force to move the armature in relation to the stationary member. A housing is disposed about the coil and the stationary member and the armature for encasing the armature and the coil and the stationary member. At least one aperture is formed in the housing to allow a fluid medium to enter and exit the housing and to contact the armature. A means bleeds a portion of the fluid medium based on the current to the coil to control the output pressure to predetermined levels.

Bypass flow pressure regulator

A combination for retaining a solenoid valve assembly in position on a transmission housing comprises a protrusion on the housing and a resilient U-shaped clip. The protrusion has a cylindrical pocket to receive a portion of the solenoid assembly and a clip receiving slot which is perpendicular to the cylindrical axis of the pocket. The clip is substantially planar and holds the solenoid assembly in place by simultaneously engaging aligned slots in the protrusion and in the solenoid assembly. At the free ends of the U-shaped clip are inwardly extending toe portions which cause opposed arms of the clip to be flexed resiliently outwardly as the clip is inserted into or withdrawn from the aligned slots in the protrusion and in the solenoid assembly. Broad bladed legs intermediate the arms and toes enable the clip to withstand fluid pressure which tends to eject the solenoid assembly from the pocket.

Transmission solenoid retaining clip

A pressure regulating device regulates the pressure of a flowing medium and includes a stationary member. A movable armature is disposed axially from the stationary member for moving axially in relation to the stationary member. A coil is disposed about the stationary member and the armature and through which current flows for generating magnetic flux to create an attractive force to move the armature in relation to the stationary member. A housing is disposed about the coil and the stationary member and the armature for encasing the armature and the coil and the stationary member. At least one aperture is formed in the housing to allow a fluid medium to enter and exit the housing and to contact the armature. A flow valve is spaced axially from one end of the armature for moving independently of the armature to prevent parasitic forces from being transmitted by the flow valve to the armature.

Transmission pressure regulator

A throttle plate actuator and apparatus for controlling the pivotal position of a carburetor or throttle body throttle plate. The throttle plate actuator includes a rotor having a rotatable shaft mounted in a housing. First and second permanent magnets of opposite polarity directions are mounted on the rotatable shaft in spaced, facing relationship. A stator in the form of an electromagnet constructed of first and second pole pieces normally surrounds the facing portions of the first and second permanent magnets. At least one electrical conductor is wound in a plurality of turns to form a winding about each pole piece. When energized, the windings induced a magnetic field in the pole pieces which generate a predetermined magnetic torque proportional to the amount of current flowing through the windings to overcome the bias of the return spring attached to the throttle plate so as to rotate the rotor and attached throttle plate a predetermined angular amount. The throttle plate actuator apparatus includes a control unit responsive to accelerator pedal position and the throttle plate position and parameters stored in a control program to control the amount of current supplied to the windings of the stator.

A solenoid actuated control valve includes a valve member located in either of a first or a second position within a fluid flow passage in response to the energization or deenergization of a solenoid. In one of its positions, the valve establishes a minimum restriction to flow and in its other position establishes a maximum restriction to flow. The valve member is designed so that the fluid pressures to which it is exposed are essentially balanced in its direction of movement so that the valve may be rapidly shifted with a minimum power requirement. By controlling the solenoid energization by a pulse width modulated control signal, the flow restriction may be time averaged to any restriction intermediate the minimum and maximum restrictions. The valve is especially adapted for use in a vehicle suspension system to provide a variable damping characteristic for a shock absorber, for example, which may be varied in response to vehicle operating conditions monitored by an electronic processor which controls energization of the solenoid.
