An aerial vehicle traffic control system comprising a ground system, an unmanned aerial vehicle, a wireless communications link between the ground system and the unmanned aerial vehicle, the unmanned aerial vehicle configured to travel in a three-dimensional airspace, the three-dimensional airspace partitioned into multiple individual three-dimensional virtual cells, a database having a unique authorization token associated with each of the virtual cells, a transaction processing engine configured to assign each token in the database to no more than one unmanned aerial vehicle at a time, and a controller configured to control the unmanned aerial vehicle such that the unmanned aerial vehicle is restricted from entering a cell without first being assigned the token for such cell.

Cellular aerial vehicle traffic control system and method

A secondary system operates on a vehicle to avoid a collision when a problem occurs with a primary system. For example, the secondary system may operate independently from the primary system to take over control of the vehicle from the primary system when the secondary system detects a potential collision, when an error occurs with the primary system, and so on. In examples, the primary system may implement first techniques, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques, to understand an environment around the vehicle and/or instruct the vehicle to move within the environment. In examples, the secondary system may implement second techniques that are based on positioning, velocity, acceleration, etc. of the vehicle and/or objects around the vehicle.

Perception collision avoidance

A plurality of configuration parameters for setting a device are determined by setting one or more performance parameters. The performance parameters are end-results of configuration that a user desires to achieve by setting the configuration parameters on a device. By setting the performance parameters instead of multiple configuration parameters, the user can conveniently achieve desired performance on the device without having to try many combinations of configuration parameters. When the user sets a performance parameter value, a set of configuration parameters corresponding to the performance value is computed or retrieved. The performance parameters may be set using a user interface element such as a slider that is intuitive and easy to manipulate.

Result-oriented configuration of performance parameters

A true north heading is determined by using gyroscopes of differing accuracy and orienting a gyroscope of a higher accuracy to a direction that is more sensitive to azimuth change (e.g., an east/west direction). A gyroscope with a lower accuracy is placed perpendicular to the gyroscope with a higher accuracy and can be oriented towards a north or south direction. The gyroscopes may be placed on a rotatable platform to properly orient the gyroscopes. The higher-accuracy gyroscope may be implemented by using multiple gyroscopes oriented in the same direction.

North-finding using inertial navigation system

A spatially distributed MEMS inertial sensor array is designed to reduce or cancel measurement errors and to increase the signal detection accuracy. By combining the measurements from a pair of sensors having sensing axes in two different, non-orthogonal directions, the correlated error due to the environmental changes are cancelled or reduced and the uncorrelated random noise is also reduced by the square root of two. By sequentially sampling the sensor array in the time domain, the number of the ADC circuits can be largely reduced. A two dimensional signal processing method is used to process the sensor array output data, in order to further reduce the remaining errors. Namely, one dimension uses the outputs from multiple spatially distributed sensor sets and the other dimension is the time domain. The signal to noise ratio is increased by using the signal correlation in both the spatial domain and the time domain.

An antenna assembly for receiving the GPS signals in a global positioning system (GPS) receiver module automatically orients the antenna to better receive the GPS signals. The antenna is oriented by a positioner (e.g., a counterweight) that automatically rotates a frame on which the antenna is mounted. The GPS receiver module may also include multiple antennas oriented in different directions to maintain good reception of the GPS signals in any position. The multiple antennas are oriented in a manner so that the poor reception range an antenna is covered by other antennas. Signals from multiple antennas may be combined or chosen for processing by a GPS processor. Also, multiple GPS receiver modules may be deployed in close proximity so that wireless communication between the GPS receiver modules may be established.

Correcting a temperature measurement of a target sensed at one temperature sensor in an asset tracking device by using another temperature sensor. The asset tracking device includes at least one heat source that affects the temperature sensor for sensing the temperature of the target. The other temperature sensor measures temperature at a location in the asset tracking device. The relationships between an actual temperature of the target and the temperature measured at the two sensors are established through experiments or model. Using the relationships, the measured temperature of the target can be corrected to obtain a corrected temperature of the target.
