The present invention relates to a process for producing an odorless and colorless industrial grade propylene glycol from glycerol obtained during the manufacturing of biodiesel. The process includes hydrogenating the glycerol to form a hydrogenated product, distilling the hydrogenated product to form a glycol product, and contacting the glycol product with a treatment bed. The propylene glycol may be used in various industrial and consumer applications and products such as personal care products.

Process for the production and purification of propylene glycol

Embodiments of the present invention disclose a process for the co-production of bis(para-aminocyclohexyl) methane (PACM). Also disclosed are articles of manufacture made using PACM produced by methods of this invention. The methods of the present invention generally include a first mixture having methylene di-aniline (MDA) and a second aromatic amine. The first mixture has less than 15% polymeric MDA by weight and the second aromatic amine is present in an amount to render the first mixture a liquid. The first mixture is hydrogenated to produce a product mixture comprising PACM and at least one second non-aromatic amine.

Identified herein are inhibitors which may be added to the boiling pot portion of a distillation apparatus prior to or during the distillation of an alkylene carbonate. The inhibitors retard the occurrence of undesirable reactions of the alkylene carbonate with itself and impurities present in the pot, and hence greatly reduce or minimize the formation of undesirable by-products which otherwise tend to reduce overall yields of alkylene carbonate recovered by the distillation process. Higher distillation temperatures at higher pressures over the prior art are possible without attendant losses of significant amounts of recovered alkylene carbonate, which confers heretofore unseen flexibility in alkylene carbonate distillation.

Polymerization-inhibited distillation

Provided herein is a process for producing alkylene carbonates of ultra-high purity. According to the present invention, certain stages of traditional distillation of alkylene carbonate distillation are replaced by carbon treatment. Alkylene carbonates produced according to the invention have a color of less than 25 (Pt-Co), and are suitable for uses requiring ultra-pure alkylene carbonates.

This invention concerns a process for preparation of alkanolamines such as diethanolamine (DEA) from ammonia and an alkylene oxide such as ethylene oxide. The yield of DEA may be increased by adding monoethanolamine (MEA) to the second feed in a split feed reactor scheme. The process can be conducted as a multistep process, such as by reacting a portion of the ethylene oxide followed by addition of a second charge of ethylene oxide after complete reaction of the first charge of ethylene oxide.
