Large crystals of titanium silicalite or intergrowths of intergrown smaller crystals, having a mean particle size greater than 2 &#x3bc;m, have been found catalytically effective at commercially reasonable rates for the epoxidation of olefins in the presence of hydrogen peroxide. Crystals synthesized with a silica source having a low sodium content exhibit high levels of production and selectivity. The crystals have a low attrition rate and are easily filterable from a product stream.

Process for direct oxidation of propylene to propylene oxide and large particle size titanium silicalite catalysts for use therein

Noble metal-containing titanium zeolite catalysts are prepared by reacting a titanium compound, a silicon source, a templating agent, and a noble metal source at a temperature and for a time sufficient to form a molecular sieve. The catalyst is useful in olefin epoxidation with oxygen and hydrogen.

Epoxidation catalyst

The selectivity of an olefin epoxidation catalyzed by a noble metal-modified titanium or vanadium zeolite is greatly enhanced by the addition of a nitrogen compound to the reaction mixture. The epoxidation utilizes hydrogen and oxygen in addition to the olefin.

Epoxidation process

The selectivity of an olefin epoxidation catalized by a noble metal-modified titanium or vanadium zeolite is greatly enhanced by the addition of a phosphorus, sulfur, selenium or arsenic compound to the reaction mixture. The epoxidation utilizes hydrogen and oxygen in addition to the olefin.

Para-xylene is produced by toluene methylation by charging toluene and a methylating agent to a fluidized bed of catalyst at a rate sufficient to maintain the fluidized bed in a turbulent sub-transport flow regime, reacting the toluene with the methylating agent, and recovering para-xylene from the fluidized bed. The fluidizable catalyst is a microporous material having a Constraint Index of about 1 to about 12. The relative concentration of the catalyst particles having a major dimension of less than 40 microns is controlled at between about 5 and 35 weight percent. The catalyst particles have an apparent particle density of about 0.9 to 1.6 grams per cubic centimeter, a size range of about 1 to 150 microns, and average particle size of about 20 to 100 microns.

Fluid bed process for para-xylene production

The present invention is a method of producing an ex situ selectivated catalytic molecular sieve for shape selective aromatic alkylation in which a catalytic molecular sieve having a reduced activity is modified by being exposed to at least two selectivation sequences, each sequence includes contacting the molecular sieve with a selectivating agent and subsequently calcining the contacted molecular sieve. The present invention is also a method of producing an ex situ selectivated catalytic molecular sieve for shape selective aromatic alkylation in which a catalytic molecular sieve is modified by being exposed to at least two selectivation sequences and then reduced in activity. The ex situ selectivated catalytic molecular sieves may optionally be further modified by in situ trim selectivation. The present invention is also a process for shape selective aromatic alkylation utilizing the modified molecular sieves.

A process for shape selective hydrocarbon aromatization that involves contacting a hydrocarbon feedstream, under aromatization conditions, with a catalytic molecular sieve which has been modified by being ex situ selectivated with a silicon compound. The ex situ selectivation involves exposing the catalytic molecular sieve to at least two selectivation sequences, each sequence comprising contacting the catalytic molecular sieve with a silicon compound followed by calcination. Optionally, the modified catalytic molecular sieve may be further selectivated in situ.

Para-selective aromatization process with ex situ selectivated zeolite

A process is provided for selective catalytic conversion of certain hydrocarbon feedstocks to product rich in para-dialkyl substituted benzenes. The catalyst required in the process comprises a crystalline material having the structure of PSH-3, MCM-22 or MCM-49, or a mixture of said crystalline materials, said crystalline material having been treated with one or more monomeric or polymeric siloxane compounds which decompose to oxide or non-oxide ceramic or solid-state carbon species.

Selective production of para-dialkyl substituted benzenes and catalyst

A crystalline molecular sieve is synthesized as encapsulating chelating agents which are macrocyclic organic molecules containing from about 8 to about 18 members in cyclic configuration with at least one bicyclic bridge having from about 3 to about 10 members, the molecule members being carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur, selenium, phosphorus and/or arsenic. The molecules contain at least two nitrogen members and at least one member is oxygen, sulfur, selenium, phosphorus, and/or arsenic, and the members include sufficient bonds to contiguous members or to hydrogen to form stable molecules. The macrocycles may be complexed with metal ions and the molecular sieve may be used in catalysis and medical imaging.

Inorganic molecular sieves encapsulating chelates

Non-acidic tin-, lead-, or indium-modified Pt/ZSM-5 catalysts are effective catalysts for the shape selective preferential hydrogenation of certain aromatic hydrocarbons in admixture with others. These catalysts can be used to reduce the aromatic content of gasoline and distillates.

A method for synthesizing a zeolite bonded to a substrate utilizes a reaction mixture having a H.sub.2 O/YO.sub.2 molar ratio of at least 25 and Y is a tetravalent element, particularly silicon. A structure made according to this method includes a film of interconnected zeolite crystals bonded to a substrate and the structure is characterized by a value r representing the mg of zeolite/cm.sup.2 of substrate surface and a value e representing the coating efficiency as mg of bonded zeolite/mg of YO.sub.2 initially in the synthesis mixture; wherein r is at least 0.5 and e is at least 0.05. Processes are provided for separation, sorption, organic feedstock conversion, light paraffin dehydrogenation and NO.sub.X conversion over the structure.

Catalytic conversion of a C.sub.2 -C.sub.5 alkane, e.g., isobutane and/or isopentane, to isoalkenes, e.g., isobutene and/or isopentene, respectively, is undertaken in the presence of an aromatic recycle stream which provides the heat of reaction for the conversion which is endothermic, in the absence of hydrogen.

Base-catalyzed reactions using zeolite catalysts

A staged process has been discovered for the selective conversion of paraffins in naphtha to aromatics and conversion of naphthenes in naphtha to olefins. In a first stage, n-paraffins in naphtha are converted to aromatics over modified non acidic zeolite catalyst particles with a low conversion of naphthenes in the feedstream. The effluent from the first stage is cascaded to a second stage reactor containing acidic zeolite catalyst wherein naphthenes are converted to light olefins. Advantageously, the process of the invention results in a reduction in the production of light C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 paraffins compared to the prior art. The preferred catalyst for the first stage is a platinum modified zeolite containing tin.
