A power chuck assembly for securing a workpiece as the chuck assembly moves or rotates the workpiece is disclosed. The assembly includes a body portion, at least two gripping members and at least two counterweights wherein said counterweights operate to assist in securing a workpiece upon the chuck assembly.

Counter centrifugal power chuck assembly

An equalizing power chuck includes a body, a plurality of work engaging jaws, and a plurality of rocker arms carrying the jaws. The rocker arms extend axially along an axis and have a mounting portion at one axial end for the jaws and an end portion at the other axial end. The equalizing power chuck also includes a plurality of swivel mountings connecting the rocker arms to the body, a plurality of slide members receiving the end portions of the rocker arms, a reciprocal actuator disposed centrally of the rocker arms, and a plurality of carrier members pivotally secured to the actuator. Each of the carrier members operatively cooperates with a pair of the slide members such that reciprocatory movement of the actuator moves the carrier members and correspondingly the slide members to move pairs of the jaws simultaneously relative to each other to engage a work-piece therebetween and allows the pairs of the jaws to pivot until a pressure exerted on the work-piece by the work engaging jaws is equalized.

Equalizing power chuck

An equalizing chuck includes a body, a plurality of work engaging jaws, and a plurality of rocker arms carrying the jaws. The rocker arms extends axially along an axis and have a mounting portion at one axial end for the jaws and an end portion at the other axial end. The equalizing chuck also includes a plurality of swivel mountings connecting the rocker arms to the body, a plurality of slide members receiving the end portions of the rocker arms, a reciprocal actuator disposed centrally of the rocker arms, and a plurality of segments slidably secured to the actuator. The segments are operative to move in a radial manner with respect to a centerline of the body and operatively cooperate with the slide members such that reciprocatory movement of the actuator moves the segments and correspondingly the slide members to move the jaws relative to each other. The equalizing chuck also includes a plurality of bearings positioned between the segments and the body wherein engagement of a workpiece by a set of jaws causes relative radial movement between adjacent segments until a pressure exerted on the workpiece by the work engaging jaws is equalized.

Equalizing chuck

A swivel mounting for mounting a rocker arm of a chuck and allowing pivoting movement of the rocker arm includes a cylindrical mounting member disposed in a cavity of the chuck and having an axial bore therethrough defining an interior surface thereof and a cylindrical bearing member disposed within the mounting member having an axial bore therethrough defining an interior surface thereof for supporting a portion of the rocker arm. The bearing member further has an exterior surface which is a mating surface with the interior surface of the mounting member. One of the mating surfaces has an annular channel therein, and the other of the mating surfaces has an annular projection thereon. The projection is positioned and sized to fit inside the channel, and the height of the projection is less than the height of the channel. Also disclosed is a chuck employing such swivel mountings.

Swivel mountings for a power chuck

A power chuck includes a body, a plurality of work engaging jaws, a plurality of rocker arms carrying the jaws, and plurality of swivel mountings connecting the rocker arms to the body. The power chuck also includes a plurality of slide members connected to and matingly engaging the rocker arms and reciprocable actuator disposed centrally of the rocker arms and operatively cooperating with the elide members. Reciprocatory movement of the actuator along the slide members rocks the rocker arms in the swivel mountings and moves the jaws radially relative to each other.

The power chuck also includes a plurality of slide members connected to and matingly engaging the rocker arms and a reciprocable actuator disposed centrally of the rocker arms and operatively cooperating with the slide members. Reciprocatory movement of the actuator along the slide members rocks the rocker arms in the swivel mountings and moves the jaws radially relative to each other.
