A dispenser includes a container with an endwall and a cap covering the endwall. The cap has an aperture and a first film covering the aperture. A hood over the cap has a barrel defining a bore which is coaxially aligned with the aperture, a second film sealing the bore, and a gasket compressed behind the second film. A spike is carried for movement in the barrel between retracted and advanced positions. The dispenser has first and second conditions. In the first condition, the first and second films are against each other and seal the aperture and barrel, and in the second condition, the first and second films are away, unsealing the aperture and the barrel. When the dispenser is in the second condition and the spike moves from the retracted position to the advanced position, the spike pierces the endwall.

Variable rate dispenser with aseptic spike connector assembly

An infusion pump includes a reusable housing unit, a disposable reservoir, and a cap fit on the reservoir, wherein the cap includes a conduit for fluid communication. An aseptic connector assembly includes first and second occlusions in the reservoir and the cap. A pull assembly extends from the aseptic connector assembly and forms the first and second occlusions. The pump has three states. In a storage state, the reservoir is separate from the housing unit and the first and second occlusions cooperate to occlude a wet path extending from the reservoir through the conduit in the cap. In a ready state, the reservoir is applied to the housing unit but the wet path is still occluded. In a use state, the reservoir is applied to the housing unit, the first and second occlusions are removed from the aseptic connector assembly, and the wet path is opened for communication.

Drug cartridge-based infusion pump

A tamper evident closure assembly is for use with a fitting having an outer sidewall with internally-directed threads, externally-directed splines, and an open post. The closure assembly includes a cap, a collar, and a frangible attachment coupling the cap and collar. The cap, collar, and frangible attachment are formed integrally as an integral unit. A radial lug on the cap engages with the fitting threads. A pawl on the collar allows rotation of the integral unit on the fitting in a first rotational direction and prevents rotation in a second rotational direction. Application of the integral unit to the fitting engages the radial lug with the threads on the fitting and the post and the cap form a fluid seal. Tampering with the integral unit when the integral unit is applied to the fitting severs the frangible attachment, thereby defining the cap and collar as separate pieces.

Tamper evident closure assembly

A method of assembling a liquid medicament dispenser, includes the step of providing a housing, a reservoir, a tubing set, an administration line, an aseptic connector assembly having upstream and downstream portions, and a pump. The upstream portion of the aseptic connector assembly is coupled to the reservoir, and the reservoir is filled with a liquid medicament. The downstream portion of the aseptic connector assembly is coupled to the tubing set. The reservoir and the upstream portion of the aseptic connector assembly are sterilized together. The downstream portion of the aseptic connector assembly, the tubing set, and the administration line are sterilized together. The upstream portion of the aseptic connector assembly is connected to the downstream portion of the aseptic connector assembly, and the reservoir, pump, and other elements are mounted in the housing.

Sterile assembled liquid medicament dosage control and delivery device

A unified dispenser for holding, mixing, and dispensing a drug includes a housing holding a diluent reservoir, a drug reservoir, and a tubing set connecting and defining a fluid communication path therebetween. A first occlusion is at the diluent reservoir, and a second occlusion is at the drug reservoir. In a storage state of the dispenser, the first and second occlusions are entirely encased within the housing and occlude the fluid communication path. First and second pull assemblies extend outside the housing. The first and second pull assemblies are coupled to the first and second occlusions, respectively, so that removal of the first and second pull assemblies removes the first and second occlusions and joins the diluent reservoir to the drug reservoir in fluid communication through the tubing set, thereby arranging the dispenser from the storage state to a use state.

A liquid medicament dispenser includes a housing and a pump carried by the housing, a reservoir applied to the housing and containing a pre-filled sterile liquid medicament, a sterile tubing set routed through the pump, a sterile administration line carried outside of the housing and coupled aseptically to the sterile tubing set in fluid communication, and an aseptic connector coupled to the reservoir and the sterile tubing set and changeable from a storage state to a use state. In the storage state, the aseptic connector prevents the liquid medicament in the reservoir from moving to the sterile tubing set. In the use state of the aseptic connector, the aseptic connector defines a sterile passageway for the flow of the liquid medicament from the reservoir to the sterile tubing set.

A dispensing device and the method of making same for dispensing medicaments to a patient that includes a housing, a first assembly connected to the first end of the housing that includes a body portion, and a penetrating sub-assembly. The first assembly also includes a rate control chip of novel construction that is connected to the penetrating sub-assembly and functions to control the rate of flow of medicinal fluid to the patient. Disposed within the housing is a second assembly that includes a shuttle, a collapsible container carried by the shuttle and a plurality of variable force springs that function to thrust the collapsible container into penetrating engagement with the penetrating member of the penetrating assembly and then to collapse the collapsible container to deliver the medicinal fluid to the patient. Connected to the second end of the housing is a novel third assembly that includes an operating member that functions to controllably move the shuttle forwardly of the housing.

A fluid introduction system includes an introducer configured to create a pressure of at least 69 kPa within a spine, and an operator configured to actuate the introducer to introduce fluid into the spine according to a predetermined fluid introduction profile. The system can include a computer readable medium having code for receiving fluid introduction data indicative of a fluid introduction parameter, and for receiving response data indicative of a response of the patient at a time related to a time of the fluid introduction data. A method for introducing fluid includes positioning a first introducer in a first portion of a spine, positioning a second introducer in a second, different portion of the spine and, without removing the first and second introducers, introducing fluid into the first portion of the spine with the first introducer and introducing fluid into the second portion of the spine with the second introducer.
