Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for automatically generating and updating a list of previously visited locations that are popular to a user. A data point can be generated from sampling a position of an electronic device. It can be determined if the data point represents a destination of the electronic device based upon metadata of the data point. An entry of a list of previously visited locations can be updated based upon the data point when a first previously visited location is within a distance threshold of the position of the data point.

Automatic identification and storage of frequently visited locations

Presenting system and device conditions and purchasing options for components compatible with hardware devices of a computer system. In one aspect, an operating system determines the identity of a hardware device in communication with the operating system, communicates over a network to receive current purchasing information related to the hardware device, and displays components that can be selected for purchase and used with the hardware device. Another aspect provides a selectable user interface control for display in a graphical user interface that indicates a new operating condition of the computer system, different from a prior operating condition, by displaying a different appearance of the control. One embodiment has a new operating condition occurring when a component of a hardware device is within a predetermined threshold of requiring replacement, refilling, or supplementation.

Presenting compatible components and system conditions for computer devices

Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for automatically generating and updating a list of previously visited locations that are popular to a user. The method includes receiving a data point belonging to a series of data points generated from periodically sampling a position of an electronic device, automatically determining if the data point represents a destination of the electronic device based upon metadata of the data point, and automatically updating a visited locations list based upon the data point, the visited locations list including an entry associated with a previously visited location of the electronic device, wherein the data point is combined with the entry when the position associated with the data point and the previously visited location are correlated.

The present technology provides an ability to simulate the performance of mobile content in a more realistic testing environment than previously available. Specifically, the present technology can mimic the fluctuations in network states that mobile devices typically experience. As the mobile content is tested using the simulated network states, the present technology can record the performance of the mobile content and create a log of the performance. Further, the present technology can also analyze the mobile content performance log and recommend various optimizations to increase the performance of the content.

Mobile hardware and network environment simulation

Providing a recommendation of one or more items is disclosed. In some embodiments, a selection of a set of one or more items to be included in a recommendation is received from a first member of an online community, and the recommendation is stored so that the recommendation can be presented to a second member of the online community when an indication is received that the recommendation is of interest to the second member.

Recommended systems

Online purchasing of components compatible with particular hardware devices of a computer system. In one aspect, the identity of a hardware device capable of communicating with computer systems is automatically determined. At least one component for the hardware device is displayed on a computer system based on the identity of the hardware device such that the user can select the at least one component for purchase, where the at least one component is compatible with and for use with the hardware device.

Method and apparatus for providing compatible components for purchase

Providing a comparison of a set of similar items includes: receiving from a first member of an online community a selection of a stored prior comparison created by another online community member of a set of similar items; providing to the first member a template for the comparison, the template being at least partially pre-populated using data from the stored prior comparison created by the other online community member; and receiving from the first member a submission of the comparison, wherein the comparison includes one or more modifications as made by the first member to the template.
