A method and apparatus for making a pliable wallcovering. The wallcovering replicates the appearance of aged, cracked plaster wall finishes, can be readily hung over existing walls, and is durable. In the method of making the wallcovering a putty-like joint compound mixture is applied to a pliable stretchable woven sheet. The sheet is comprised of strands forming interstitial openings extending through the sheet. The joint compound mixture is forced through the interstitial openings and is allowed to dry. The dried joint compound mixture is cracked in a manner which renders the wallcovering pliable.

This invention is a regenerable process for producing elemental sulfur from SO.sub.2 initially contained in a dilute gas source by: (1) absorbing the SO.sub.2 in a concentrated Na.sub.2 SO.sub.3 solution to convert most of the Na.sub.2 SO.sub.3 to Na.sub.2 S.sub.2 O.sub.5 ; (2) separating one third of the absorbed SO.sub.2 ; (3) reacting the residual mixture with solid NaHCO.sub.3 to form gaseous carbon dioxide used in a subsequent step and a slurry composed of solid Na.sub.2 SO.sub.3 suspended in a Na.sub.2 SO.sub.3 solution; (4) separating solid Na.sub.2 SO.sub.3 from the solution which is recycled to (1) above; (5) reducing solid Na.sub.2 SO.sub.3 to Na.sub.2 S; (6) reacting the Na.sub.2 S with H.sub.2 O and CO.sub.2 to form solid NaHCO.sub.3 which is recycled to (3) above and gaseous H.sub.2 S; (6) reacting gaseous H.sub.2 S with SO.sub.2 separated in (2) above to form water and elemental sulfur.

The present invention provides a method of using air to reclaim and recycle potentially contaminating NO in a system producing ferric sulfate solution from the oxidation of ferrous sulfate and sulfuric acid in the presence of NO and oxygen. A safety support and stop assembly for securing a dump body pivotally mounted on a truck chassis frame in an elevated position above the chassis frame so as to permit a mechanic to work safely on components of the truck while the dump bed is in the elevated position. The safety support and stop assembly comprises an upright support member, a cradle support assembly and a base assembly. The upright support member is characterized as having an upper bed engaging support end and a lower pivot end. The lower pivot end is pivotally connected to the cradle support assembly such that the upright support member is disposed in a selectable angular disposition relative to the truck chassis frame. The base assembly, which is removably supported on the truck chassis frame, supports the cradle assembly at a preselected position along the truck chassis frame.

A process for the preparation of sulfonated aromatic amines starting with the corresponding aromatic amine sulfate salt which employes a rotating reactor in which there is maintained a rapidly moving heated cascading bed of solid particles composed largely of the final product whose temperature is above or brought above the rearrangement temperature. The reactants are fed to the bed at such a rate that the cascading movement of the bed is unaffected. The heat imparted to the amino hydrogen sulfate within the bed by the surrounding particles orient the desired rearrangement to take place along with the vaporization and elimination of water.

A process for removing oxides of nitrogen from a gas in which the molar ratio of NO to NO.sub.2 is greater than 1. Sufficient NO is oxidized by the reaction NO+2HNO.sub.3 =H.sub.2 O+3NO.sub.2 by a solution whose HNO.sub.3 concentration is maintained above about 20% to form a gas whose molar ratio of NO to NO.sub.2 is close to 1. Substantially equivalent amounts of NO and NO.sub.2 are absorbed by a solution whose pH is maintained below about 2 containing HNO.sub.3 and dissolved NH.sub.3. The absorbed oxides of nitrogen react with the dissolved NH.sub.3 at a temperature above about 50.degree. C. to form elemental nitrogen and water. The process can be carried out in several steps or in substantially one step.

This invention is a regenerable process for producing gaseous hydrogen sulfide in concentrated form from sulfur dioxide obtained from a dilute gas source by (1) reacting the SO.sub.2 with a concentrated solution of Na.sub.2 SO.sub.3 to form Na.sub.2 S.sub.2 O.sub.5 in solution and then either: (2) reacting the Na.sub.2 S.sub.2 O.sub.5 with Na.sub.2 CO.sub.3 to form solid Na.sub.2 SO.sub.3, a concentrated solution of Na.sub.2 SO.sub.3 which is recycled to the SO.sub.2 reaction and concentrated gaseous CO.sub.3 which is used in a subsequent step, (3) reducing the Na.sub.2 SO.sub.3 to Na.sub.2 S, (4) reacting the Na.sub.2 S with solid NaHCO.sub.3 to form gaseous H.sub.2 S and Na.sub.2 CO.sub.3, (5) recycling part of the Na.sub.2 CO.sub.3 to (2) above and reacting the remainder with concentrated CO.sub.2 from (2) above to form solid NaHCO.sub.3 and recycling the solid NaHCO.sub.3 to (4) above, or; (2) reacting the Na.sub.2 S.sub.2 O.sub.5 with NaHCO.sub.3 to form solid Na.sub.2 SO.sub.3, a concentrated solution of Na.sub.2 SO.sub.3 which is recycled to the SO.sub.2 reaction, and concentrated, gaseous CO.sub.2 which is used in a subsequent step, (3A) reducing the Na.sub.2 SO.sub.3 to Na.sub.2 S, (4A) reacting the Na.sub.2 S in solution with water and gaseous CO.sub.2 from (2A) above to form gaseous H.sub.2 S and solid NaHCO.sub.3 and (5A) recycling the solid NaHCO.sub.3 to (2A) above.
