A computerized accounting system implemented using object-oriented programming techniques which permits construction of user-defined accounting or other business frameworks without modifying or recompiling the program code. A graphic user interface (GUI) is provided which enables a user to interact with the system to accomplish all required tasks, including designing and constructing the business framework, as well as inputting and processing data using the designed framework. The system supports modular design of complex frameworks. It also allows the user to specify changes in business rules within a framework and tracks the changes over time.

A method and apparatus for the automatic manufacture of flat bottom bags from a substantially continuous supply of a sealable material whereby the material is formed as a bag having a reinforced sealed flat bottom formed by an interior bag forming assembly that is cooperable with a relatively movable folder assembly that folds the bottom of the bag and removes it from the bag former assembly after a length of the bag is severed from the remainder of the material.

A needle looper assembly for a lockstitch sewing machine wherein the upper thread is retrieved by a sewing needle extending through a work material, which sewing needle has an extensible hook portion for catching an upper thread and drawing the same down through the work material to a looptaker in the bed of the sewing machine. The needle looper assembly is supported on the end of a lever pivotally carried in the sewing machine bed to extend transversely thereof. The lever has the needle looper assembly attached to one end thereof, and may be actuated by a cam so as to drive the needle looper assembly to an elevated thread catching position or to a retracted thread releasing position. Retaining means are provided associated with the needle looper to permit an upper thread to be caught and held during passage through a work material and to be released when in a retracted position adjacent the looptaker.

A sewing machine is provided with a thread handling device having a thread holding and a thread metering function. The device includes a pair of parallel elongate members, and a length of easily compressible resilient material which is carried by one of the members and compressed against the other member. Needle thread extending between the resilient material and said other member is subjected to frictional resistance by the resilient material during movement in the device.

A thread handling device is disclosed in a type 301 lockstitch rotary hook loop taker sewing machine having a three-to-one hook to arm shaft ratio for controlling and metering slack needle thread prior to needle penetration to prevent the thread from wrapping around the point of the needle, which could prevent loop seizure, break the thread, or interfere with correct stitch formation. The thread is guided between two stationary members, with the controller between the members, the controller comprising an edge attached to the needle bar drive connecting link, moving with it, and only engaging the thread as the take-up and needle bar descend, providing a lengthened thread path prior to needle penetration.

A lockstitch sewing machine is provided with a rotatable loop and bobbin case assembly providing for limited contact between the loop taker and bobbin case, and including a bracket which is affixed to the bed of the machine and is connected with the bobbin case at substantially diametrically opposite locations thereon to constrain the bobbin case angularly and rotationally but permit needle thread to be moved by the loop taker between the bobbin case and bracket during the formation of lockstitches.

A thread handling system for a sewing machine is provided with a tensioning device without a check spring, a thread takeup member for pulling thread from the tensioning device and setting stitches, and a thread holder including a pair of elongated members which grasp and meter thread to a needle and looptaker. The tensioning device is disposed with respect to the operating limits of the takeup member to enable thread to be withdrawn from the tensioning device without being pulled from the thread source and with only slight thread tension.

A sewing machine is provided with a spring biased platform and bobbin which are movable by the throat plate of the machine into a position wherein the bobbin is disposed to receive the lower limb of a loop of needle thread and to effect an operative connection between the bobbin and drive shaft providing for rotation of the bobbin as required for bobbin winding. An electrical switch operable by the thread of a full bobbin is provided to discontinue rotation of the bobbin drive shaft.

A zig-zag sewing machine is provided with a compensating link and slide which engage on curved surfaces extending in a circular arc that has its center in line with the link. The compensating link and slide are situated between a crank and needle bar and move relative to each other during zig-zag operations to modify the operating effect of the crank and cause a needle to be similarly positioned relative to a vertical axis hook for loop taking in alternate zig-zag positions of the needle bar.

A thread snubbing device for a sewing machine is provided with a cage which attaches to a needle clamp, and with a shoe of predetermined mass which is loosely confined by the cage wherein it is caused by inertia and engagement with the cage to be moved against a length of needle thread between the shoe and clamp to apply a snubbing action thereto during loop seizure and loop formation.

The needle bar of a sewing machine is mounted in a spherical bearing which is located adjacent the lower end of a needle bar bracket. The bearing is pivoted as a gate in the frame of the machine and the bracket is pivoted as a pendulum at its upper end to fixed structure in the machine head for movement in mutually perpendicular directions.

A lock stitch sewing machine is provided with mechanism controllable by a servo motor for pulling thread from a bobbin, and including a selectively positionable member operably connected with a feed dog and bobbin thread engageable means for causing thread to be pulled from the bobbin by the thread engageable means during downward motion of the feed dog in amounts determined by the position of the selectively positionable member.
